Default Das Boot film, can this be right?

hi,

was watching DB last night (my fourth viewing) when I noticed something which perhaps should not/could not happen. The young watchman shouts out an aircraft warning. All go down below and the sub goes on a crash dive. We then see the captain talking to the young crew man who gave the aircraft warning. The crew man is now at the helm station! How could he suddenly be at a new post when his official post at that time was meant to be at the conning tower on watch? Why would the previous crew member on helm swap post with a coning tower crew member at such an important/dangerous moment.

Because the enemy "Plane" was a seagull he stared into the sun and though it is a plane. To the position change. I think that in case of an imergency any crew can handle that position. Just think if the guy who has this post is asleep and they have to crash dive.

Yes, it was an error though they didn't know that at the time.

Not at that moment but the Captain recognized that. I think you would hear the Plane. And i also think the plane had to see the submarine if it is flying right at them.

He did not go to the "helm" station, he went to the bow dive plane station. The dive planes are not manned while the boat is surfaced.

You, Sir, are a fount of nautical knowledge. If the polar ice caps melt and we're all living on ships/boats, I want to be on yours.

Not really. Most of what I "know" is stuff that has been discussed here and pointed out by others over the years. I'm just lucky enough to remember some of it.

Or, as a good friend of mine once quoted, "An expert is the guy who knows where to look it up."

Used to have a sign pinned up on my cubicle in the Instructor room to the effect of:

expert (n)

From the Latin ex = has been + spurt = a drip under pressure.

Thou must never look behind the curtain of the Great OZ, or the magic of movie making for that matter...

I am impressed that they build a complete VIIC inside 100% accurat with every single screw. They even kept a scene which wasn't planned. The scene where the one guy screams "Man over board". The guy was really pushed away by the water and hurt himself really bad. But they liked that so much so they kept it.

When the U-Boat leaves La Rochelle the Kriegsmarine brass band plays "Muss I' Denn, Muss I' Denn", an old German love song that many people will recognise from an Elvis Presley movie, GI Blue I think, with the title "Wooden Heart". But when the boat returns the band plays a much more martial march (which does not prevent a soldier on the pier from dancing!). But which marching tune?
