Default Edit Difficulty During Campaign?

Okay, I just ran across 3 jap battleships and a fleet carrier.

They're moving too fast for me to sprint ahead and wait for them to pass, but I can't let these guys go.

They have 6 destroyers escorting them.

I need to make myself undetectable, or make the destroyers really stupid.

How do I go in and edit the files? I used to know how to but it's been a while.

Thanks

Aw, c'mon, if you sink one what pride could you have...

Just how fast it the group going and what boat type are you in?

Almost always getting found out will slow the group. Note it's course, then get in just enough range to be seen or picked up on radar, usually the group will slow and start zigging. If the DD's come at you, dive deep and go flank. They will hunt where they last saw you. Once you get 3-5000 yards from where you dived, go silent. They should end up hunting an area your not in. When they leave come up and plot your end around.

This only works as long as one ship from the group stays in your subs contact zone, so try and keep contact. If they leave, the group will despawn.

I've chased TF going zigging going 19kts for days, eventually you can work ahead or if you get to the flank, they may zig towards you giving you a shot. If they zig away, I will turn more towards the base course, usually they zig back and you'll be closer. Worse thing you can do is is follow behind them chasing zigs. They zig to the right, better to stay straight and wait for the next zig. Also try to figure where they're headed, if it appears the TF is heading towards a capital port, you may be able to get there before they do. Works best using RSRD campaign mod, stock traffic may do anything.

They're going about 23 knots... I'm in a Balao - so my top speed is 21.

I can plot an intercept course but not if I'm forced down below the surface with more than 5 miles to go

They may force you down, but most groups slow down after they spot you and zig, so it at least gives you a chance to do a later end around.

If you can't get in front, this at least gives you a chance. If you're in position enough you can get in front without being seen,...that's better.

Every time I reload the game, I get the "WARSHIP SPOTTED" so the destroyers are already in firing range.

I can get to a launch position at the VERY END of my Mk.14's range, but after I launched a 6 fish spread I had no hits. One looked like it was going to hit a cruiser, but it ran out of range and died.

HA! I've seen that happen too. You save the game in mid-chase, undetected, and when you reload, the first thing the AI will to is a check on what's going on, and all the sudden it realises you are in sighting distance. Heck! Wasn't I before? Should I back a couple of miles away before saving?

Anyone else has seen this happen?
