Okay. I have two computers here. Dangerous Waters installed in both. They are networked on a router. I have no problem connecting them to play Dangerous Waters.
On the other hand, when I try to connect to one of my friends, we cannot connect. Here is everything I have done to try to alleviate the problem, all to no avail. We have both opened the proper ports for DW on our routers AND firewalls. We have given Dangerous Waters full permission to send and receive from the internet in our firewalls. No connection. We tried shutting down our firewalls and shutting down our router firewalls as well. No connection. We have tried Hamachi and configured it properly. No connection. I see him as fine and he sees me as having a "tunnel problem VPN error" We tried to connect with Hyperlobby, and still couldn't connect. All through the above we have tried every one of the adapters listed in DW's Adapters.txt. No connection. Is anyone of you out there an expert who can help ? I've tried absolutely EVERYTHING that I know to do. I'm running Windows XP with SP3 and my friend is running Vista. We see each other and can chat in Hyperlobby and in Hamachi. Only when we run Dangerous Waters, it doesn't see the other connection.

My gut feeling is that the problem is in adapters. I recommend shutting down any internet connection that you're not intending to use specifically for this. For example, if you're on an ethernet connection, shut off the wireless connection. Then double check and make sure the dw.ini file line matches the adapters.txt line for that specific connection. Note that you don't need to specify the IP for this to work. Anyway, one thing that might be happening is that your ini tells DW to look for one adapter, but the connection occurs first on the other.
If that isn't it, double check ports and firewalls both at the individual computers and at their routers.

I have done that. My computer only has one adapter. My friend's computer has two and we've tried both. I'm having problems with Hamachi too. I am able to get a direct tunnel to my friend, but it says on both of our computers that there's a tunnel problem. I've used a port checker on my computer and found that the ports for Dangerous Waters as well as every port that I've manually had to port forward are not open. Even though they are listed as open in my router settings AND in my firewall. So there's something blocking my ports even though I have them listed as open. Even when I shut down the firewall and open all ports on my router, they still are all closed.
Yet, I play City of Heroes and have Steam. Those connect fine as does Skype and Gbridge. But with those, I didn't have to manually port forward any ports. I am able to connect my laptop here and my desktop and play Dangerous Waters no problem, but they don't connect if the computers have to connect over the internet and not directly over the router. And just to verify. When you put your adaptor in the dangerouswaters.ini, do you need to put just the name of the adaptor or the whole line including the ip address ?

Absolutely !! I think I just solved the problem. I was just able to connect to my laptop using Hamachi and I also experimented with some other programs that I couldn't get to connect and lo-and-behold, I got them to work. There was ONE LITTLE HIDDEN check box in my router config that I found and unchecked. Just tell me when you want to connect up.
