Default SH5 OMG

Ubisoft must have really shot themselves in the foot with this release...Takes ilke 10 minutes for it to start after clicking into it because of all the updates and what not it looks for...Damn..i just wanted to play a submarine game nothing more...I'm sure they couldn't have made this game more convoluted if they tried..
Plus..i've just upgraded my computer for a kick ass model but it's nowhere near good enough for SH5...Mega dissapointed..

SH5..what a load of crap!...back to SH3 for me...

There's lots of stuff to try if it's causing you problems, it certainly shouldn't be taking ten minutes to start (though load times are a little longer with mods, but it's worth the wait).

Try D3D Antilag (http://www.kegetys.net/misc/) to improve your framerate, turn particles and shadows down too to help fps.

Disable storage of saves on the Ubisoft server to reduce potential errors and improve the initial connection time. There's a guide on this site somewhere.

Then have a look in the mod section, get yourself some better UI (TDW's NEW UI's with TDC, including the SH3 style if you're a traditionalist), a better Campaign (Open Horizons II) and better AI (IRAI). Get Dynamic Environment 5.0 for stunning waves and ocean environments. Get Nozaurio's skins, Capthelms audio mod, TheBeast's Equipment Upgrades to improve the audio & visual even more. Add Magnum Opus and the FX Update for even more fixes and improvements.

Then play the sub game SH5 was meant to be. Or stick with what you know. But you'd be surprised how much asking for help here will do for you, rather than moaning because 5 isn't 3.

would love to know your PC specs, as mine is 2 years old (ok I've upgraded the cpu to quad 3Ghz) but its only got an ati HD4800 graphics card and running win7 64bit with 6Gb ram and runs SH5 very well, all spec turned up and at 1920x1200 res?

Just been on SH5, from clicking the short cut link on my desk top to being in the sub on a saved game was under 3 mins, so not sure why yours is taking 10 mins?

what is this kick ass pc you speak off?

Ok...then i've got a problem!...I've upgraded to a quad 3,2 with 8 gig ram and a geforce 9500 GT with 1 gig onboard..Win 7 ultimate 64 bit SP1..

I know SH3 and 4 dont' like being installed to the (86) program directory but i was able to do something about that..SH5 though didn't give me the option of installing to a directory of my choosing..I don't know if that could be an issue.

Also the computer is freshly(ish) formatted with hardly anything on it..No driver problems or interprogram conflicts or anything like that....unless SH5 has a problem with 3 or 4! which incidently both run extreemly well...

Your'e probably right...i should maybe have contained my initial dissapointment instead of simply reacting....always easier to say after the flow of "dissapointment hormones" have left the body....i was just miffed and raggled..

No worries mate, we all do it sometimes! Where is SH5 installing when you install it? For me it's just C/ubisoft/silent hunter 5 and it did that straight off the disc install without me deliberately choosing it. If it's not there that could be part of the problem.

Try a full uninstall and reinstall. When you first load it after your fresh install, it should auto-update to the latest version. It often appears to hang after the patch installs - don't hit the 'Quit' button, just wait - make a cup of tea if you have to - and let it return to the launcher screen (with the ubi online stuff and 'Play' button) on its own. Is this what you meant about taking ten minutes to start after downloading the update? If so, yeah it is annoying, but quitting out early caused me no end of trouble so be patient and let it do its thing

Also - have you installed any mods? And if the answer is yes, did you install them without playing the tutorial first?

We'll get you seaworthy

Your computer or internet connection must be crap cause Im not actually running a kickass pc but it runs sh5 fine on high settings and it takes about 30 seconds to load up from the moment I click on the sh5 icon.

Intel dual core 5130
nvidia 9800gt 512mb
4gigs of ram
Windows 7 Ultimate Ed, 64bit (without sp1)
antivirus disabled while playing sh5

Actually thats right..That is what i did and thats why i did a re-install..The problem persists though as it was the same with the second install and that time i touched nothing.....It eventually got into the game but yeh...the framerate was terrible, so much as to be totally unplayable..It was a fresh install..No mods.

Hahaa...i regret using the term "kick ass computer".....and maybe your'e right..i don't know..I just know SH5 is unplayable for me..

Anyway thanks for the help guys but after reading the SH5 official feedback thread from this url:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/1121062387

i don't think i'm going to bother....from what i've read the game is unredeemable even with mods if it's a simulator your'e interested in......and next time i'll do myself a favour and wait until theres plenty of feedback before i invest in SH6 (if i'd have read the feedback for SH5 a few weeks ago i wouldn't have bothered buying the game...)

I had expected SH5 to be like SH3+GWX with up to date graphics and maybe a few more thrills..and calling home on start up everytime is ..yeh....i'm not interested in that at all

That 9500 isn't up to it, or up to any sort of gaming for that matter. Get a proper graphics card; problem solved.

Chuckles and shrugs....maybe, maybe not....i don't know......certainly don't have any problems with anything else and considering others have told of their lesser spec graphic cards that run SH5 well......shrugs again......still...as mentioned...the subject is mute. I've uninstalled SH5 now and won't be reinstalling it..

Still, the rest of that PC is up to gaming. At least trade up to a 9800GT or something. Though even those are nearing the end of their usefull lifespan. :/

* at any rate, if you want to buy a new game that is more demanding in the future, remember that that card is the weakest part in there.

well sorry to say but your Graphics card is just a budget one, not kiss ass at all, and therein lies your problem.
