According to that I live in the South, and work in the North, just by travelling 5 miles East!

Nope,they are Scots,we are English
Further north and you get to Hadrian's (Romanized Britain) wall, which was built across the entire width of northern england to keep the Scots out, there was once bitter conflicts here at one time. Here in Yorkshire we are a bit south of this area, but still north of the 'centre' line of England to be considered 'northern' and not southern.
It can get a bit sticky at times you see,no doubt like in Amerika?

Looking at the maps South Shields is like RIGHT on the edge of Newcastle and more or less on the border with Sunderland. What do YOU define yourself as Jim?

It's 34 here in Houston with a saturating 90% humidity, which means your sweat does not evaporate, making it more uncomfortable than the desert.

It gets pretty hot in Boston, NY, and Chicago, but it stays about 30~40C for five months here, May-Sept.
