Default CTD when heading towards AC?

Hello Guys,

I've just recently bought Silent Hunter 5 and I'm enjoying it so far. Played Silent Hunter when it was on the Amiga and bought Silent Hunter 4 back along too.

Anyway to the point, I'm on the Total Germany campaign at the moment and I've recieved my 3rd Objective to take down an Aircraft Carrier. I get a notification from my crew saying "Capital Ship spotted bearing 190". After that I start to head towards that bearing, I get so far then CTD. The game has been fine up until now and I've loaded it a few time and tried heading there again, same issue, CTD. I can go anywhere else on the globe except in that direction, towards the AC.

I've reinstalled the game once with still the same issue and looked around the forums or google etc. and not found anything specific.

Im running Windows 7 64-Bit, Q6600 Quad oore, 4GB PC2-8500 RAM, Asus P5N32-E SLI Deluxe mobo, Nvidia GTS 250 1GB (275.33 Drivers).

Hope you can help!

Thanks

I did have environment mod and the real flags one but I have installed a fresh copy now with no mods which is patched to 1.2.0. The same thing still happens.

Well... It seemed like the mod works.

I didn't actually find any submarines though... and 'nor did I actually find the Aircraft Carrier lol, but theres a hundred or so threads I can look at to find that out it seems.

I will keep playing around, searching around and see what happens but it hasn't CTD'd where it did before.

Really appreciate the help guys, especially Trevally. Thanks!

Hate to double post.

But actually the mod didn't work. It just seemed like it did after what I've been trying, I got further and without crashes but now it still seems to be doing it.

I find it strange how I can look at Carriers/Subs or whatever it is causing the crash in the Museum fine but in the game something is causing it to CTD on me.

Any further help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Possible that C++ is causing this. The version installed by the game gets updated several times by various programs and even windows updates. Even if its suppose to be compatible backward, its not.

Okay, I'm at work now but when I get home I will perhaps try to uninstall C++ completely and install the latest version

Is that a good idea? or is there a specific version I should try? To be honest I'm not too worried about other programs that may stop working as a result, I'm purely focused on SH5 at the moment and getting it working!

Cheers Zedi

When you re-installed, had you deleted all trace of SH5?
What environmental mod did you use?

I think that when this issue happens you will get a CTD during loading and not be able to get into the game at all.

I would suggest that you start from a clean slate.
Unistall all mods - uninstall game - delete all sh5 folders and the ones in your documents.

Re-install and update to patch1.2
Then check if you get ctds.

Hey,

I had Environmental Mod 2.0 installed with "Lighter Night Somewhat" that came with it and the Accurate German Flags mod.

I did not actually delete anything from my documents when I re-installed, totally forgot to look for those.

I will try it again soon, just been out with the missus after work and I don't feel like doing it now. Will keep you guys posted.

Cheers for the help yet again

Hey,

I have uninstalled the game, deleted the SH5 folder in my documents and reinstalled the game.

SUCCESS!!! It works now! I am literally about to launch a torpedo at the Aircraft Carrier as I type this.

Weird thing is the bearing was 190 Degrees and it suddenly changed to 60 Degrees for a capital ship sighting. It's as if it just appeared where it should've been all along, in the port of Plymouth. Very strange but I can at least now continue the game.

Thanks guys for all your help and suggestions. I really appreciate it, was starting to have some doubts that I'd never get to finish the game. But I won't hold my breath just yet.

Hope it stays fixed for you

If you add mods - one at a time and its best to follow some of the mod lists (sober and stoianm etc)
