Default submerged speed and stability

Would my U-boot be more stable and run faster when submerged and without flakguns and deck gun mounted? I considered not mounting them when changing to IXC but did not know if they affect speed when submerged.

Yes they do effect speed underwater, hence many boats had their deckguns removed later in the war... also worth mentioning deckguns were largely obsolete considering allied airpower at that time.
I'm sure someone round here can give you figures.

Is this modelled in the game though? You're correct about the deckguns, hence they weren't even part of the Type XX1.

Love the sig by the way.

Absolutely. The only evidence of this we need is the type XXI. They completely designed it for speed and doing so meant that there could be no deck gun jutting out of the hull. Compare max underwater speed of 7.6 knots for a type VII-C to a max underwater speed of 17.5 knots for a Type XXI. Enough said.

However I'm not entirely sure if this would have anything other than a cosmetic effect within the confines of the SH3 engine. Its certainly worth a try. It just might work. I'm aware that using the new decks awash mod subs are slower while partially submerged so it might stand to reason that the removal of the deck gun could add some speed. But no guarentees- this isn't the Source engine, thats for sure.

Heh.. I was asking about game :-) I know that in real world, deck guns affected submerged speed. But I don't know if it's modelled in game Is there anybody here who knows it?

In all the time it would take you to wait for someone to actually cut through the bull that usually inhabits these less pressing topics and explain exactly what you want to know you could just load up the game and try it out. Trust me, don't wait for these pricks to grow up and stop making fun. Carpe Diem

:-) I'm in mid-patrol now :-) I'm still full of hope that maybe some mod creator know it for sure :-)
