I tried this game about a year back on my friends PC, being a huge fan of both SH3 and SH4 (which were both absolutely flawless after subsequent patches)
But this game was too riddled with bugs, glitches, and even pure uncompleted material for me to find find enjoyable. Has the game gotten better now? Have any patches been released that fixed the game? Maybe worth buying now?

A quick reading through a small handful of threads would answer that question. The simple answer is that most of the people who play the game love it.

They (Ubisoft), Did not fix the game, fully. But modders have turned this flawed gem into a masterpiece. Just download a few mods and the game plays as well as any other SH game.

What are some good mods to try? I'm looking for an experience like SH3 or SH4, with full TDC, none of that weapons officer auto-TDC that SH5 came with. It was like a huge leap backwards in terms of immersion, you know?

Fantastic list and with links, thank you sober. I really think - since this is probably the most common question on the forum - that a post like this should be made sticky and locked. I know there are many such threads but over time it gets to be 10 or more pages long and the real reply kinda gets lost in the mass of question, answers and new or unrelated links posted. Perhaps even give it a title like 'New to SH5? CLICK HERE FIRST'. Just a thought.
