Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything in Subsim's forums. I'd say about 99.2% of you don't remember who I am, but that's ok.
So after spending about 3 years onshore duty (ie: playing "other" games), I've decided to come back to sea and start a new adventure with SH5. Of course I had to re-introduce myself to the gameplay once again, so I dusted off SH3 with GWX, then tried SH4 for old times sake, and away I went. Then I installed SH5 and with that said, I have a few concerns: 1) What the heck happened to the Royal Navy? Did they inject opium into the Indian tea imports? The AI is laughable at best. Hopefully they get much better as time progresses. But I remember the AI being more difficult in vanilla SH3 during the same game year as I'm playing in SH5. 2) Historically speaking, I've sunk more capital ships than all submarines in every service combined in all of WWII. So far I have 3 Battlewagons, 4 Carriers, 6 Armed Merchant Cruisers and 4 Heavy Cruisers on my tally board.... and it's only March, 1941! 3) Do they make "Raid" for software? For those who don't know, "Raid" is a commercial pesticide product that kills bugs. This game is literally infested with them. But that's enough of that. Without skimming almost 3 years of posts that I haven't kept up with, I'm sure these (and many other issues) have been torpedoed time and time again. I'm just glad to be back with a community that's helpful, friendly and generally great to be around. -AO1

Welcome back aboard
![]() I don't know you but I think you've missed much banter over the last three years. People have come, and people have gone. I don't know too much about SH5 but you should head over to the mods section there to see how much they've improved the stock game. ![]() See you around ![]()

WELCOME BACK!
![]() I don't remember you either, but then a lot of the time I don't remember my own name. ![]() As for your concerns, they are pretty much all answered already (not in this thread of course). 1) The AI: Fixed, or so I'm told, and fixed well by TheDarkWraith's mods. 2) Sinking lots of ships: This has been a problem with every subsim since Silent Service twenty-six years ago. Realistic gameplay is nice to talk about, but developers have to consider how many players really only want to see one enemy ship every three weeks or so. 3) Bugs have been countered. I could be wrong on this one, but people who play the game consistently seem to think so, so the mods should help.

Take a look in the SH5 MODS subforum.
I recommend you to install Magnum Opus (first Megamod for SH5, still WIP new version) and have a look in IRAI (AI Enhanced). You won´t say that about Royal Navy again. ![]() |
