I've seen old fishing trawlers look in better shape. Some of the crew are going to spend a lot of time scraping that rust away when they get back to Britain.
She appears to be missing a large amount of tiles, whats going on?

I must say she looks much nicer inside, very shmick.

It doesnt look too bad for a 26 year old sub

Spartan is about to sail for her final deployment which will see her travel extensively before she decommissions early next year. This deployment is the culmination of an extensive maintenance period during winter 2004 and Operational Sea Training during Spring 2005. On returning to the UK in December the ship’s company will take their Christmas leave before Spartan holds her decommissioning ceremony in January 2006, celebrating a long and varied commission.

I suppose she is aged, but the old O' boats looked pretty darn good from the outside at 30+ (in RAN service at least).

When will astute enter service?

The construction of the casing was of a glass fibre and alloy except in the case of the Otter which was reinforced with steel which allowed her to carry out the role of 'Target Boat'.
With regards to Astute :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
Quote:
Since the restructuring of the contract in February 2003, good progress has been made on the build of ASTUTE and the programme is on track to meet the revised In-Service date. MOD and BAE Systems remain committed to delivering the first of three ASTUTE boats by 2009.
