Default Your favourite weather?

For a daylight attack?

Personally I'd like to have 10/12 m/s, lightly clouded, no precipitation ; medium visibility. (16K mod).

On my return to base a slight haze (Diesig) would be nice. (Early war)

For cruising towards Freetown (IXB-U123..Like Hardegen I'm not afraid to use the deck gun..) I fancy perfect weather.. reasons: fuel economy, and my crew can get some R&R..(Have seen dolphins, but no sharks, yet.)

15 m/s, rain and fog wears me out.. literally !

High sea state, rain and fog! Makes slipping past the escorts so much easier, and if you are smart, you can escape on the surface. Once the allies have radar though...

Hardegen is my favorite u-boat commander.

He's 5 foot nuthin', weighs a hundred and nuthin'. One leg shorter than the other due to a plane crash, declared medically unfit for submarine duty, Donitz still sends him to the American coast.

He sinks the Cyclops 3 days before Drumbeat actually begins, and raids NY harbor!! Almost gets captured on the second patrol to the east coast, and has the gonads to admit the only reason they weren't captured was because he froze at the bottom of the ladder to the bridge. He was scared out of his mind.

Wins his oak leaves for having sunk over 100k tons and gets a dinner with Hitler where he unapologetically pisses Hitler off so badly that he is reprimanded by the Chief of Staff, and Donitz is forced to re-assign him to a training command. Ends the war with the only 25th highest total tonnage sunk.

What a guy!

I believe I've heard the dolphins on sonar. I thought I was hearing whalesong another time, but I've since learned that sound is small/coastal merchants.

And a sinking ship can sometimes make noises like a whale too.
Beautiful to hear, but also kinda spooky.

I hate to tell you this... but "shrimp" is what your crew calls you when you're not around.

For convoys? My preferred weather is 7 m/s, moderate visibility, some rain, overcast. Clear skies and flat seas are great for shore leave; out hunting targets, give me sloppy gray every day.

But too sloppy - rain, fog, limited visibility -- it's not worth the fight. Better to shadow the convoy across the Atlantic & wait for better weather, even if it takes days.
