Default cant take her down.

i seem to be unable to dive my ship. if i press D, the boat will go down, and S still works to surface, and A will hold depth, but when i click on the depth meter, the ship dose not repsond. i do not have any mods, but i dont know what to do and i dont like just uesing the relitivly inpersise keybord method.

Are you using the one on the interface or one in the interior? The ones in the interior don't work in stock.

Welcome aboard Wooaa!
As Kylesplanet stated.
Also, Are you at least using the 1.4 patch or above (1.5)?
Is this the only problem your having? Just depth control?! Steering and speed OK!
Any graphics weirdness? Is the game running very slow or sluggish?
If your up to 1.4 at least your interface depth control should work and we'll need to know a bit more about your computer.
Thanks

The speed up button? The Z key being the silent running mode key. It's possible that doing this might have disabled the taskbar command, never sure though. Forgive me, by speed up key, do you mean the time compression button? You might want to restore defualts on your keyboard commands and then pick a key that is not previously being used for anything else. This might have caused your problem.
Hope that's it.
Good Hunting.

The game uses "+" and "-" keys for that. Backspace to go back to normal time.

Wooaaaaa thar' pardner!!

If at all possible buy a new keyboard. Yes, go ahead and reinstall the game. Get back to a clean install. But not having the function of using the full keyboard is going to limit your actions and function of the game.

You will miss out on the control of the sonar bearing by not having the "home/end" keys. This is important when playing the Gato or Gar class boats, they don't allow a mouse click on the bearing dial to change the bearing direction of the sonar.

Not being able to raise the periscope with using the control key with the "page up/page down" keys. As mentioned the "+/-" keys for time compression. The "delete" key for toggling the lower hud interface to disappear/appear when you want. Trying to add these functions to an already packed keyboard will just cause you to lose some other function. It's not worth it, upgrade the keyboard.

Going to your original question of not being able to dive your ship using the keyboard keys. You do have a mouse don't you? Mouse clicking the three Hud dials (bottom right) will set any depth you want, any compass bearing you desire, at any speed that's available. The depth dial is where you can set the sub at a "deck's awash" height for specific use when it is appropriate. The point is, know what the interface will do for you, and have the right equipment sitting on your desk to make it work.

Good luck, and welcome to SubSim

Do you have a laptop?
I think the only thing that CapnScurvy meant, was to suggest purchasing a new keyboard based on the indispensability of certain keys. If you have a laptop, you're already limited in the number of unassigned keys at your disposal.
