Default Now here is an interesting Headline: Man thanks dog for eating his toe

That's quite the eye catching headline

http://www.petside.com/petsideblog/2...bref=obnetwork

Quote:
Despite his initial reaction after waking up in a blood-soaked bed, 48-year-old Jerry Douthett later thanked his terrier, Kiko, for gnawing off his infected toe. Kiko's bold removal allowed doctors to discover Douthett's underlying diabetic condition and give him some much-needed treatment. For a long time, Douthett suspected that something was wrong with his big toe. And last month, he finally gave in to his wife's suggestions and agreed to get it examined by doctors.

But before scheduling an appointment, Douthett went out for drinks. His wife had just become an American citizen, and he was too busy celebrating to notice the condition of his infected toe.

On that fateful night, he drank heavily. With five to six beers and some 32 ounce margaritas in his system, he fell asleep peacefully on the bed.
No one can be certain whether or not Kiko mysteriously sensed that the toe was no longer a part of his owner anymore. All Douthett knows for sure is that he fell asleep with five toes on his foot, but awoke with only four. He soon realized what had happened and rushed to Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus.

As a precaution, authorities are under observation to make sure that Kiko is not a danger to his owners.

What do you think of this miraculous story? Do you think Kiko's motive was to help his owner or do you think it was a fortunate coincidence?

A very strange story indeed. Well one thing is clear, Jerry will have to knock off the boozing if he has DM. He must have been pretty drunk not to notice a dog gnawing off his toe.

As is so often true "alcohol was involved" <hic>

He must be real stoner....
Probably the dog could eat his head as well without him noticing it.

My guess is that the toe was dying off, so he wouldn't feel the dog eating it. In fact, if the dog hadn't done that, he might have cought a serious blood infection by the dying toe.

The blog entry is from August 2010, so the story is a few months old. I remember hearing about it on talk radio at the time.
