Default Looking for a good Mod

Hi Folks, I'm new to SUBSIM but have been playing Silent Hunter since number 2 came out. I've recently re-installed SH4 and am looking for a mod that will keep me busy for a while.

I'm more interested in a realistic experience than an arcade mod, so can you reccomend any that might fill my needs.

P.S. I just ordered SH5 hoping it works now as i was very aprehensive about ordering it due to the problems listed everywhere, so some reccomended Mods for that would be great too.

Most say TMO is harder, RFB is more realistic.

I say TMO is more realistic because it's balance keeps you more in line with how you plan tactics.

Mods are like women, have to try out a few to compare to see what you like.

Default This should get you in the water

1. American Submarines -Go to Neal Steven's sticky in the mods forum. He has links to PTO (Pacitic Theatrer of Operations) supermods. In a nutshell, they are TMO (Trigger MAru Overhauled), GFO (Game Fixes Only), RFB (Real Fleet Boats) and FOTRS (Fall of the Rising Sun). Take your pick. To run a realistic campaign in the Pacific there is RSRDC (Run Silent Run Deep Campaign), which replicates the major convoy and task force routes (and sea battles). Stevens' sticky is a slightly outdated, but lists many mods of various types.

There are many more individual mods out there. They cover everything under the sun froim Great Whites, to floating dead bodies, to medal fixes, to attack mods (3D TDC radar, Easy Aob and Optical Targeting Correction mods, just to name a few), Nav Map fixes, depth charge fixes, and so on. I could go on forever. If you activate a lot of mods, there is always the possibility of mod conflicts which can cause various files to be overwritten, glitches in the game, and even CTD. That hasn't stopped me. I have three versions of SH4 that i play (there is a download called multi SH4 that enables you to run multiple versions), each with a different supermod and several individual mods.

2. German U-Boats -OM (Operation Monsoon.) Go to the ATO (Atlantic Theater of Operations) fourm. You will want to download, OM/OMEGU (Operation Monsoon Environmental & Graphics Upgrade)/KIUB (Kreigsmarine Interface for U-Boats). You will find threads for each in that forum.

Everyone has a favorite supermod if they use them. I have mine, and it would surprise my old friend, Armistead. Which is the best or most realistic? Those are the wrong questions. The question should be, "Which one do you (or, will you) enjoy the most?" It comes down to a matter of individual taste. One may have better graphics, another may have tougher dds, etc. Take Armistead for example. The tougher the dds, the more he laughs and yells, "More, More, Harder, Harder. THEY WHAT? You HAVE to be kidding, right? YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THEY KILLED ME AND MY BOAT IS SINKING!! HAR! HAR! HAR! That's funnier than hell! HAR! HAR! HAR! Let's do it again! I haven't had that much fun in ages. They knocked the hell out of me. It was a blast (no pun intended.)"

Pick a supermod give it a try, and let the chips fall where they may. Unlike hitting a target with a torpedoes, you can't miss when selecting a supermod.

As for my preference, it is unimportant as your personal tastes will make that decision. Waves to Armistead as I drop down the hatch in my U-Boat.

Are you stereotyping again?
Hmmm, now that I mention it, I can't even monotype.

Depends on how you define realism. . I suspect, you might be happiest with the RFB. It strives for total historical accuracy of the submarine, its equipment, etc.

TMO also strives for accuracy in the technical areas, but takes creative license in order to achieve its real goal of getting more historical accuracy out of the player. (or something like that. I just did what i wanted and some people seem to like it. *shrug*)

monotype, is that when you use one finger from each hand to type..

Don't worry, I tested out enough women that I've stuck with the last one for 15 years and not so much as held another girls hand in the wrong way, nor do I desire to do so.

I'm thankful in my play days I didn't get any "mod soup."

You sir, owe me a new keyboard, because I was drinking Coca-Cola when I read this, spit it out, out of sheer laughter, and now my keyboard is all sticky.

Take a handful of birdseed, toss it onto the PC keyboard, and even a pigeon will type better than me.
