Default Speaking of "Torpedo Run!".....

Does anyone remember the board game from the mid-late 80s?

I remember getting it for my birthday one year, it was a fun game, but it ran its course pretty quickly and got old.

the whole point was to shoot the little discs in a free for all and whoever ran out of ships first lost the match. thats it.

in theory a game could be over in a minute or so if you were good enough of an aim.

it would have been nice to have some sort of divider like the classic game battleship to prevent you from seeing your opponents boats only with a space to allow the discs to pass under the divider - or perhaps the game could be based on a roll of the dice to see how many shots you would get.

hehe

You may want to patent a new version of torpedo run. I just remember rapid firing the disks on my basement floor and eventually losing them all.

Oh... next subsim meet, we got to have a winner take all Torpedo Run Tournament!

yeah but we need to make some rules though

how about this:

you need the standard ships/subs and disc ammo, one pair of die and 4 quarters.

each player can set up his ships however he pleases. each player takes 2 of the 4 quarters and places them on the edge of the table at the corners.

1. instead of playing on the board, you play on a long table, like a ping pong table.

2. Die roll will determine which target you can shoot in the turn. if you roll anything between 1 and 4 you have to target one of the small ships until they are eliminated, if you roll a 5 or 6 you can target the battleship.

3. A Second Die roll will determine the number of shots you can take up to a maximum of 3 shots. roll a 1 or 2 you get 1 shot. roll a 3 or 4 you get 2 shots. roll a 5 or 6 you get 3 shots.

4. A third roll of the die will be a "depth charge run"... if the roll lands on either 1 or 6 (the only acceptable numbers for the bonus roll) the player can elect to "depth charge" the enemy sub. this is done by aiming carefully at either of the opposing players quarters at the corners of the table. it is the longest and most difficult shot, but if the quarter is hit and knocked off the table the opposing player loses 2 turns.

5. if a player rolled the die and the roll resulted in getting to take all 3 shots he then has to skip a turn to reload.

6. after you take your shot(s) then it is the other persons turn to give it a try

7. the player to eliminate the opposing battleship first wins.

Need to make adjsutments on how many destroyers are left.....

And we need to skew the %'s of possible shots, so getting to shoot 3 isn't a totally penalty.

1-3 shoot 1, 4-5 shoot 2, 6 shoot 3. You don't have to take all your shots though, and if you take 3, you get a reload penalty, but if you don't take them all, no penalty. That way you can decide if making that desperate last stand is worth it or not.

For DC'ing, you roll the die, and if you come within the number of destroyers left, that means they forced you down, and you miss a turn. IE 3 dd's still up, 1-3 DC run, 4-6 all clear. 1 DD still up, 1 DC run, 2-6 All clear. The opponent then gets to take that many shots at the quarters, 4 hits and your sunk, if they go off the table. WASSERBOMBEN!

Sunk ships take 2 turns to be removed from the board. P/C's ships take 8

Then there's the hungry hungry hippos mode, where you just shoot as fast as possible and try to sink them all!

ACK!!!!! Good luck getting one that would be worth it for the meet..... amazon has them STARTING at $175!!!

AHAHAHAHA... ebay has them for better.... and it seems like everybody (I am in this boat too it would seem) is selling off all their extra pieces they have laying around. You could actually build a whole game from these pieces...

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Floor-Wa...item4aaa1fae8c All there but one turret support it seems, and real cheap too! If anybody is interested... this would be a cool thing to have.
