Default Fancy an aricraft carrier?

Must have room to moor it, and tow it yourself.

Me, me, me !!!!! My dad would get a heart attack, he's used that I bring all this junk home but: hi dad, I got an aircraft carrier.

But this actually gives me an idea, lets say we have an aircraft carrier or better yet one of those marine transports (Tarawa), a dozen cargo helicopters or heavy airlifts and provide transport services to places that lack infrastructure to land the cargo with conventional merchants

And those places, that can't afford proper infrastructure, will be able to pay for your airlift.

It's not the places I'm counting on, it's the companies and organizations that operate in such places.

Be nice to turn it into a disaster response service.

Where is International Rescue when you need them?

Idea is nice, but it would still have to be a contractor to fund itself when crisis hits. Maybe when I'm filthy rich I'll buy one and donate it to the red cross, even pay for the operation. But will dream that dream another day

Problem is deployment. While the services a ship like this outfitted to supply heavy lift capabilities to disaster areas would be awesome, it would never be in the right place at the right time.

Within 72 hours, an engineering crew could have a usable runway in operation for heavier air transport to land. It could take weeks (or more) for a ship like this to get to where it's needed.

Very few, if any, of the major naval powers have the infrastructure to support prepositioning the required vessels world wide to provide fast enough response times.

But aside from that little hurdle, it's a wonderful idea. Imagine what a carrier, hospital ships and attending supply ships could provide to disaster ravaged areas in time of need.

Sorry, Australia isn't interested. We did buy one of your landing ships that you were selling off. Let us know when the next budget cut forces you to sell more off and will come have a look.

We might hold out for the QE carriers.......

I guess that lets me out as I really don't have anywhere to park it...

Besides judging by this excerpt:

"Before they can attend, they must submit an outline of their "intentions regarding the vessel" to the Ministry of Defence (MoD)."

The killjoys at MoD would probably frown on anyone trying to convert it into a floating brothel...
