Default Dismissing high ranking Officers

If I dismiss a high ranking officer, do they really get their own sub? I saw something about that in SH3 Commander.

No. There are no other subs in the game, only yours. For those of us who do it it's a matter of feeling real, not being real.

What about feeling like the only fish in a very big bowl?

That's why I use the full Radio Messages. I get to hear other subs reporting in and listen to distress calls from the merchants.

Why should I? I put a lot of time into turning them from whimp's into cold blooded killing machines.

Don't have any high ranking officers to dismiss.

And no, they can't have my senior POs.

Usually, I leave such things to the gods of SHCommander's 'random crew transfers'.

Having said that, I will recommend senior officers for command after around 5-7 patrols if they haven't already left the boat.

I also kick any POs or senior seaman to the beach who are still aboard after 10 patrols. Ten patrols is enough for anybody.

Since I use 'random career length' the Kaleun rarely get's 5+ patrols himself before he is beached.

It as dumb transfers! I turned it off. Since when do you transfer a radio operator for a 2nd medic!!!

I mean, at least transfer a guy in with no qualifications.

Not your choice, at least in real life. In the US Navy it was common practice to transfer 30% of the crew after every patrol. That way qualified men were moved to boats that had none, and non-qualied men got to work with those who were already trained. I'm betting the KM was pretty much the same, and the captain had very little say in what happened.

On the other hand there is no such thing as an unqualified petty officer. The very nature of achieving that rating means that you have learned your job. I use SH3C to assign quals to every PO, as was the case in real life.

If you look at how much an unqualified "PO" contributes, you'll notice that it is exactly the same as a Seaman First.
In the numbers crunching SH3 still only rates them as Seamen, until they get that qual, which is what boosts their worth.
I only took notice of this recently.

Bottom line is a "PO" without a qual, is a Striker, without formal schooling in the rate.
(It's called getting there the hard way.)

It realy would have been better to have Seamen with a "do nothing" qual, that becomes a "do something" qual upon promotion to PO. But, life goes on.

Agree 100%. Commander is such a gem that even when it 'screws up' a crew transfer you can still tweek it almost any way you want.

Still today in the Navy you get constant transfers. But when you transfer a medic out, you dont get a gunner in return. Thats what I mean about commander being "dumb" with the transfers.

To agree with Snestorm, were PO's who are not qualified are the same has a seaman. I am sure that even in those days when you were a PO, you were qualified in something...

But indeed I do use commander to qualify them has soon has I get them at the start of my carreers.

A good point; one I hadn't thought of. I wonder if that's even possible, given the nature of the game.
