Default The looming NFL lockout

When you read stuff like this, it's really hard not to view the owners as complete scumbags:

Quote:
At this point, it’s really, really hard not to believe the owners were planning for a lockout, and that they knew they would profit mightily off it. In fact, it appears that the owners would have been better off if the 2011 season was lost altogether.

It seems like it's The Producers - NFL style.

I can completely understand the players' position on the 18-game season. Two extra games during the coldest part of the season presents a greatly increased risk of injury in a game that is already injury-heavy.

I think the most elegant way of doing that would be to eliminate two preseason games, add two more playoff teams and eliminate the first round bye for 1 and 2 seeds. That gives you two extra games.

The problem with that is that you may end up with another Seattle (forgetting the fact that they beat the Saints) type situation where teams with shoddy records were in the playoffs.

Maybe they could cancel the 2011 season and see if anyone cares?

I'd care! If the players strike then play the season with scabs. It'll be fun.

I'd care too, and so would an enormous number of American sports fans, being that the NFL is by far the most popular American sports league. I hope they don't use scabs. It'll make my fantasy season hell.

Hmm, maybe the owners are hoping for a people's revolt in this country. Too many folks just sitting around without their favorite sport to watch, maybe they'd get off the couch and start throwing rocks. Join our Egyptian brothers!

I don't care what they do in the least, myself.

I'd try out for a number of teams if there is a lockout.

Hell, give me minimum wage for an NFL player, $285,000 a year, and I'll NEVER complain.

Shortly after posting that, if there is a lock-out, it would be a great time for us to invest in a SUBSIM team. We'd need a prime location, somewhere where the weather is nice and a large population our tourist destination:

Las Vegas.

We'll also need a catchy team name, but fierce and mean sounding. Something that also could have an awesome emblem:

Torpedoes.

Las Vegas Torpedoes, kinda catchy

We know that the teams generate millions of dollars, and all we'd really be looking for is 1-2 million, and then we can buy Neal a submarine, and have all of our wild submarine-owning dreams come true!

Playoffs are bloated enough already.

Add them as regular season games, but drop only one preseason (you really do do need more than 2 preseason games to help evaluate the new talent trying to make the team). To offset the injury risk, increase the roster size to allow for more subs and less wear and tear on each player. That way both the owners and the union win (but not necessarily the players).

I don't see the point in more playoffs. NBA and NHL both go 80 some games, MLB goes 162, and they still have one game playoffs to get into the playoffs. But yet, you're supposed to be able to statistically tell who's better after 16 games, where they don't even play every team? The more regular season games the better.
