To me, the olc gui takes sh3 to a level of realism that makes me feel like i'm playing with the same deck of cards as a real ww2 skipper when it comes to targeting. It truly is the ultimate mod.
Is there anything like this for sh5 yet? i'll eventually get around to trying this one out regardless, but the digression in targeting realism is a real bummer. Thanks ![]() |

SH5 is a very different concept, no need to overfill you UI with dials anymore.
Anyway, there is a [WIP] for MaGui on the moding section which imho is way better than OLC. |

That GUI looks promising. I never used it in SH3. The important part for me is the combination of the whiz wheel with the TDC as this, IMO most closely approximates what a U-boat skipper did to target & calculate a solution.
Thanks for the replies! |

Until MaGui for SH5 is done, check TDW UI or Reaper's UI on the mod section. Both have a lot of tools for the navmaps.

FYI, the whiz-wheel wasn't a dial. It was a hand-held circular slide rule used for torpedo calculations. Hitman made one you could download, assemble and use as they really did. OLC translated it directly to his GUI, so you could use it on-screen.

Thanks Sailor Steve. I knew it wasn't OLC's wheel, but that he had taken someone elses and used it in his gui. Just couldn't remember who. Hitman's wheel is the best (single) mod ever created for a SH series game in my opinion.
The greatest thing is that once you've mastered it, it isn't really any harder than most other "unassisted" methods of finding a solution. I may have to print it out and create my own physical one for use in SH5. I saw in the mods section a proper TDC, so i could be off and running. |

This is the template for the whiz wheel to be printed out & made.
http://www.gamefront.com/files/KM_Wi.../fileinfo.html It seems OLC's targeting wheel is different though and both are needed. The olc targeting wheel basically went around your attack peri. I found a pic: ![]() The real life kaleun had this exact wheel, a metal slider they used to calculate distance, speed, and aob to feed into the TDC. OLC made a youtube vid with a nifty tutorial. I'll hunt it down later tonight. |

that is the RAOBF. In my UIs mod in the torpedo box click the RAOBF button to show it.

Sorry, Joe. It completely slipped my mind that you were the creator of the on-screen whiz-wheel.
Here's the link to Joe's original thread, http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=123373 and here's the picture of this great tool: ![]()

This was my nightmare back in time, I always had a strong feeling of claustrophobia with that UI, was like being trapped into a heavy iron coffin with a very small hole to the outside world. It still makes me very uncomfortable looking at :/
Every tool mentioned here is already implemented in TDW and Reaper's UI. |
