Actually we backed the Mujahideen against the Soviet backed Democratic republic of Afghanistan.
The Taliban didn't come into power until the 90's and what was left of the loosely based Mujaheddin groups that were not destroyed by the Taliban formed the Northern Alliance fighting the Taliban until US invasion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_...en#Afghanistan |
