Hello all,
It's been quite some time since visiting the forum and I apologize for that, especially since this was the first forum that I got involved in. I just purchased a HP Touchsmart 310 with W7 Home Premium. It's been so long since I've been in the market for games that I was wondering if there were any games compatible with W7. sonar732 |

Practically all games work in Windows 7, except certain really old ones which might not work.

Aren't there issues with games that use older versions of Starforce?

Ive heard somewhere that Windows 7 can even run X-com (From 1994) without Dosbox, don't know for sure though since I've only ran it with dosbox.

You shouldn't have much trouble! As said, almost no current games and a fairly small subset of older games will not run on Win7. If you want to be careful with game purchases, you might want to run a search and see if people have had trouble with that game in Win7 before. Generally though, you probably will not run into a lot of issues. In fact, and I can't be too scientific about it since I have not set up all the same games on both, but I think I've had less compatibility issues overall on Win7 than I did on XP.
One thing you may want to be careful with is device drivers. Some devices, especially those released before Vista/Win7 showed up, may have wonky driver support on Win7 - which can also translate into problems with games. Sometimes it's just a matter of finding a proper Win7 driver, or an alternate driver. I've had to wrestle a little with my sound card and a couple of game controllers to get them to do what I wanted with Win7, but eventually it worked out. |

There is a program from Microsoft that you can download (for free BTW) that can give you basically a "Virtual XP" capability to run those older games. Problemi is, its only for Win7 Pro.

But virtual pc isn't intended for games. But rather ordinary applications that just can't work in newer OSs, or if you just need to test programs in a seperate clean environment. Games require much resources and quick CPU computation. Virtualization is sloooow. So I doubt it is going to work. You'll be better of with a dual-OS boot. P.S. Although the M$ website seems to insist you need Proffesional to be allowed to install Virtual PC, you might get away with selecting Professional eventhough you have Home-something. The file seems to be identical accros all 7-blends. You'd have to skip step 2 and just go for (1 and) 3 and 4 (that's not just for XPmode, it's for virtual pc if you have a non-virtualization supporting processor). http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir.../download.aspx Alternatively you can also try Virtiual PC 2007, which is an older version but still works in Win7.

Had a go at XP-mode a while ago, and you don't want to run anything demanding on it. Games are really not an option, unless you're thinking Doom or Quake, in which case DOSbox is a better option imho.
