Saw a 30s trailer for it, doesn't look too bad (cant find link).

(Parts of the film were filmed in Manchester's Northern Quarter and at Liverpool Albert docks)

the trailer is featured in Neal's link

at the youtube trailer site, you'll also find links to the series from 1944
amazing, didn't know that the US featured their superheroes this early...

We only had Göring as our "Kapitän Deutschland", that's why we lost, he was too fat to move fast

Why is he wearing suspenders???

To keep his pants from falling down.

*ba-dum-TSSSSSH*

But seriously, folks... I dunno, I'm only judging by the pic upthread, but that there looks more to me like the straps for some kind of gear that he's toting. Or a parachute harness? I dunno.

For some reason I thought CA was gonna be played by the guy who was Johnny Storm in the first two Fantastic 4 movies, is that him? Looks like a different guy to me. Not as cute as I'd hoped but I'd have to see him moving around and talking first.

Anyway, I never was a big CA fan so it's no biggie. I'll always have Wolverine.

Ya, watching the trailer I could start to see it's the same guy, the still pic just rang no bells at all. Maybe it's the hair color/style that threw me.

Re the trailer: they actually went with the full spandex suit from the comix? Really? I was hoping they'd at least upgrade the look a little more.

Punching Hitler in the face since 1941

Quote:
His first appearance was in March of 1941, in Captain America Comics #1. Captain America was first published by Timely Comics. Timely Comics would later go on to be Marvel Comics. His creation was several years in the making before that though. Creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby felt that a war with the Nazis was inevitable. Also, that the American public was in need of a galvanizing figure to lead the charge. Morale was not always great in the country and the times ahead were uncertain.
Captain America was a propaganda tool for them and Captain America would star in comics combating the Nazis and other Axis powers of World War II. Captain America was an instant success, selling over a million copies in his very first appearance. That issue, Captain America Comics #1, notably featured Captain America punching Hitler in the face. No punches were pulled with Captain America, the creators voiced their thoughts and ideals exactly as they had them.
Some heroes are conflicted and complex, Cap was one-dimensional and cocksure, that's what I like about him. Screw shades of grey, let's go kick some bad guy butt.

a German soldier sporting a PPSh in Hitler's HQ?

interesting, he fought one year before my favourite cartoon character, Donald Duck, his first WW2 film being from '42.

But the brave duck got at least an Oscar in '43 for his fight against the Nazis...
Also he preferred distance weapons:

slight OT: the Disney war toons collection is highly recommended!

indeed, regarding the front grip, but it also looks like the barrel has holes in it, and the buttstock looks cut out deeper than on a Thompson.
Anyway, I think it you're right, it should be a tommy gun, as the cartoon creators certainly never saw a ppsh before - or a german MP

edit: I would exclude that the gun is a MP18 with a modified front grip. Why would Hitler give his personal guards such an old-arse gun when he has all the new and fancy MP 40's in stock?

Last edited by Penguin; 02-09-11 at 12:52 PM. Reason: new idea about the gun

Yeah and cartoons don't usually pay that much attention on getting stuff like this 100% right.
