Default What's your record patrol?

That's without sinking yourself - year, total tonnage, number of ships, u-boat type.

Mine's not too bad, given I've been playing again for all of... 2 weeks?
1939, a two-week patrol that yielded 35,173 GRT over 8 vessels, in a good old Type VIIIB

Probably nearing a 1/4 million tons in a couple of game days whilst 'tweaking' the SpySat mod

40,000 in a couple of weeks at 74% realism, Jan 1940. Current patrol is 32,000 so far with 9 torpedoes left and good deck gun weather (for now).

I'm not even going to comment on the Spy Sat business.

Just finished my record patrol (I'm playing at realism 64%). I was patrolling AL37 (november 1940) when I ran into a large convoy. Right in the middle of it... the HMS Rodney!
I waited for nightfall, fired three eels at it, and after that I took down a Whale factory, small merchant and tramp steamer. Got away with only some small damage to the flak gun. Total tonnage 52358

I don't play it as a game, I play it as an historical recreation. I'm lucky if any patrol gets me 10,000 tons, and I have many which yield no sinkings at all.

But that's just me.

I really don't see any need to use the SpySat mod. I'm playing with GWX3 but am still running into ships plenty enough. Just reading the ' juicy huntinggrounds' topic here and looking at the Operation Spinnennetz site gives me enough info to find my targets.

Legitimate? 80k, split between two large convoys and deck gun targets.
Harbor raid record: 120k. Gibraltar - 2 Southamptons, HMS Nelson, HMS Hood, some merchants.

But I only play at 69% realism. Take it as you will.

I know those are historically accurate patrols.

But I'm curious as to how?

Unless you intentionally go retarded at the beginning of each career, to simulate the greenness of a new skipper, I would assume you are competent, if not very skilled at manual targeting.

Doesn't the game intentionally have more ships come your way, cause as someone once put it, it would be hard to market SH3, Boredom in the Atlantic.

Do you mod the game to reduce contacts, etc?

To answer the OP, My best is 123,704, but that was only 5 ships total! Would have more, as I put 2 eels into the Hood before it could hook up with the convoy, and another 2 after it was trailing behind. Never got it to sink though. That would have been one for the record books, historically speaking. Type VII too, With a IX I would have had the eels to sink her, as I ran out.....

I have only managed about 5,000 GRT in a VIIB in 1941.

Everyone will play the way that suits them best....the SpySat for GWX was developed initialy to support the testers in acheiving their goals.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who plays this way.

I use WE Assistance and still get those low scores. How?

1. I go to my assigned grid and I stay there. After a week I roll a die. On a roll of 1 I'm reassigned to another grid. After two weeks I will move on a 2 etc.

It is boring. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. My reason is that I've been playing subsims consistently for more than twenty years, and "winning" just doesn't hold my interest anymore.

That too. I use a tool called SH3 Contacts
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1402

The readme says it allows the player to increase contacts, which is true, but it also allows me to reduce contacts.
