Default Looking for a fleet boat mod

I hope I'm not failing with terms, isn't a ship that operates only on surface fleet boat? If not then someone please tell me what's the right term so I can change the title

I saw somewhere mods for battleships and stuff and if I don't remember totally wrong I think I've seen a mod for SH4 that gives you a chance to command a battleships (etc.) in career like in multiplayer.. In case anything like this exists could I have a link?

Thanks in advance and happy hunting!

The newer breed of larger, long range US Submarines were referred to as "Fleet Boats". The exact reason for the term, I'm not sure of that. For your question though, there are several playable surface Battleships IIRC. Use the search function on this forum, typing in "playable surface ships", and you'll find a few.

I think the term "fleet boat" was coined because the original intent was to design them large enough and fast enough to operate in conjunction with surface fleets in the open sea, rather than serving as harbor/coastal defense and scout platforms as the smaller, older boats were doing.

As always, more speed meant more or larger engines, which meant a larger boat, so the tradeoff resulted in slower surfaced speeds than were desirable for units that would operate with surface task forces, so the fleet boats took on the role of commerce raider/supply line choker, among many others, but rarely if ever operated in direct conjunction with the surface task forces.

They were designed to operate with, and as scouts for, the battle fleet. They were long-range, with the speed to keep up with the large surface battlewagons. Hence, "Fleet Boats".

Once the war started, that idea got thrown out rather quickly. Seeing as the U.S. battle fleet was sitting in the mud of Pearl Harbor, there wasn't really a fleet for them to scout for.

Edit:
Yeah, what he said.
