[REQ] Nuclear Subs Project.

Welcome to the Nuclear Submarines Project

On the list of things to accomplish are..

HMS Astute
-
USS Seawolf
-
Type 094 'Jin'
-
And some more depending on progress.

I will be depending a lot on all of your support through out the coming months as i develop my skills in 3d modelling.
Any volunteers are welcome to Join the project, Either gathering Info and Plans of the submarines I've mentioned.

My first project will be the HMS Astute, Hopefully with your support.

More plans like these should help a hell of a lot.

Phase 1

Phase One

In this phase i will be cutting a plan of the Astute up into several sections.

The Hull - Bow to Stern - 4 Sections

Conning tower - 1-2 sections

Dive planes and rudders - Individual

Prop cover - Individual

(Anyone with an easier way of modelling the hull, please let me know)

I'll post pic's of the different hull sections shortly!

Thanks for the support, I appreciate it...But I'm flying blind at the moment with no experience at all.

I'm currently trying to model to basic hull which i guess would be a basic cylinder shape. Yes?
Is there a better and easier way to build the basic shape of the Astute's hull?

Any help and advice would be great appreciated on how go about this and what software to use, I'm currently using misfit model 3d

EDIT

I've had a go at putting down a cylinder and then dragging it to match the image, the problem I'm having now is that the images I'm using aren't the same scales for some reason and I don't have a lot of knowledge in how to deal with that. If anyone could tell me how to correctly set up background images and then to match up the points that would be great.

Default Me gustaria......

Si.

So I've been trying a few tutorials on how to best model the outer hull of the Astute, Watched and tried a few decent ones, and even got the bow of the Sub done.

The only problem was that when i changed a setting to keep following this tutorial i was following, it kinda lagged out the dam software.
I've used Google sketch-up, Misfit model 3d, and True space but i just can't seem to model the basic hull with out the conning tower.

Is there an easier way to model the hull, using background images that are actually to scale??

Please give me some advice, any helpful hints would be great!

I usually take the blueprint image, crop it very close to the outer lines of the sub (for which you know the rl dimensions), then create a box in 3d studio with those exact dimensions divided by 10 (which then is the ingame scale if I remember correctly)

I give it the blueprint as texture, now you have a box with the blueprint of the sub at the correct scale, then I move it to the middle of the sub I'm working on, then it's a matter of 3d modelling matching the blueprint really.

That's great lol. Only problem is i can't download it because I'm on my bro's computer.

My computer is being an ass to say the least. I turn it on, Give it 5-10 seconds and then it turns itself off. Completely, I have replaced the Fan and the Processor and still it continues to annoy!

Any info would help...

Back to the 3d aspect.

Well for the last few days I've been attempting to Model the Bow, and so I'm concentrating on one section at a time.
My plan was to Model each of the Sections individually, and then join them so to Speak but As you can Imagine that's not the best way as there's no guarantee of the Scale being the same on each Section.

My Next idea was to do the length of the hull, but then i encountered the same problem, the scale on the different images we're Different.
I'm currently trying to model the basic hull but my experience is letting me down!!
