Hi,
I am new to subsim and SH3, which I downloaded from steam yesterday. I have installed the grey wolves mod and the SH3 commander program and the cfg files to get them to work together and it all seems to be ok. However, I have also tried to get the resolution mod to work so I can run at 1280 x 1024 but I cant get it change the resolution, even though I have followed the instructions. When I make the view full screen I think it is still 1024 x 768 as when windowed it says this at the top of the window. I am running windows 7 64bit - I have seen posts where the res mod works for people with win 7 so I am at a loss, any ideas?? Thanks in advance Alex |

That is the only resolution you can get when running windowed. To get hi-res, you have to run full screen only.

I tried the Resolution Mod and didn't like it. But that's just me.

I've just read my original message and it did'nt make much sense!
Basically I was wondering if there is a way to confirm the res mod has worked - i.e when in full screen mode how can I check the res is 1280 x 1024 rather than 1024 x 768. When I look in the config file of silent hunter itself (not the mod) it says 1024 x 800 so I am a bit confused. Thanks for the welcome, am really looking forward to doing some missions... |

If it worked then when in full-screen mode the picture should be square, with a big black space on either side. The high-res mod doesn't expand the picture, it reduces it to the original dimensions.

I don't understand why there should be black areas if the res-mod has worked.
Since there is no way to get a res readout ingame, one way to find out what your resolution is, get into the 3d engine, hit the PrintScreen button, come back out and paste the raw data off the clipboard and into photoshop or microsoft paintbrush. Whatever the dimension of that will be the dimension of the 3D engine. Another quicker way to see if it is working is to tell it to be 800x600 or even 640x480. If it looks like hell when next you run it, the res-mod is working. |

In the current version of my gfx card software it will only enable the "maintain aspect ratio" option when my desktop resolution is different from the monitor's preferred res - so I had to use a small display utility program to force a desktop res change while the SH3.exe is running. Otherwise no matter how I set up the Res Fix config, I get whatever resolution I choose running full screen on the monitor, stretched out if necessary to fill a widescreen ratio. This was the case in my previous installation on XP as well, altho I was able to select "maintain aspect ratio" regardless of what my desktop res was at any moment. But I've never been able to make the Res Fix run the game fullscreen in any resolution with stretching on a WS monitor without some added tweaking of my gfx options. |

Now it's a bit more complicated, but at least I was able to automate it so I don't have to toggle desktop res manually before and after playing. ![]() |

Well I tried it at 600x 480 and it had definately changed and looked awful so I guess it must have worked! Now playing at 1280 x 1024 with AA set to 32x and it is looking superb, hard to believe it's 5 years old.
Slowly getting to grips with it all, the guides on the forum have been really useful so thanks to anyone who has had anything to do with them. Happy hunting ![]() |
