Default Fix for "hovering" ships bug?

There's a distracting bug in the way distant ships get drawn. Apologies if it's already been covered here, but if it was I couldn't find the discussion.

The problem is that very distant ships seem to hover over the horizon, with a blank space between their waterline and the horizon. Perhaps this is another way of saying that the horizon doesn't get drawn correctly, appearing to fade out just shy of the portion of the ship being drawn.

Does this have something to do with using the GWX 16km atmosphere mod?

try M.E.P v3 or Hitmans gwx 20km atmosphere, or OLC Gold MkII.
they don't have this effect

Hitman's 20km mod had some bugs for me - black sky and strange artifacting in the bridge view, for starters. But OLC Gold Mk II is working OK. So I think I'll stick with that.

FWIW, this is what I get with the 20km mod (either Hitman's or Rik007's):

I use Rik007's 'SH5 Water For SH3'. It has 20km added and looks great too! But...just because I've never noticed hovering ships doesn't mean they aren't there.

I have the same problem with Rik007's mod. It looks just like the screenshot above.

That is mighty strange. If it happens with both mods, then it can't be the mod; also no one else has that problem. I'm not very good with determining these things, but my first question would be what other mods do have installed.

It is either a conflict between whatever your using and another already installed mod or the graphics card your using....I use Hitmans GWX 20 km mod without any side effects but get one or two problems with some others.

Again, I get those problems with no other mods installed (except for GWX 3.0 itself, which isn't handled through JSGME anyhow).

Also, I just updated my Nvidia drivers since posting that last pic. I guess I'll try again & see if the weirdness persists.

I suspect that something isn't returning to its initial state, even when I "uninstall" other mods in JSGME.

Fortunately, I backed up my plain stock SH3 install, before I installed GWX 3.0 and such. I'll try starting over with a clean SH3 + GWX 3.0 and I'll bet it will clear up this problem.

The 16K Mod for GWX was based on a special build of OLC's work.
It was decided as the Best Course to take at that point in time based on system demands.
GWX made a point of NOT requireing Super Duper Systems.
OLC's adjusted work met the demands of GWX at that time.
