Not much snow round here in either, we had a light covering yesterday, not much and everything is working as normal. Even the local council got the gritters out before the snow hit.

Saying all that, I'm still waiting on a parcel I ordered 1 week ago, been tracking it via Amazons site and they said it would be delivered by the 14th. Well its 19th of december right now and I'm still waiting. Least I am not the only one, with around a 4 million parcel backlog.

(Just checked, my parcel is still in Warrington. Might just go there and pick it up myself.)

Feel for the UK. We finally got some snow a few weeks ago in NC and ice this week, but nothing major, but dang it's cold this year. Overall winters are much warmer here than when I was younger, but cold as hell this year.

Are you in one of the British regions that have already introduced the new improved computer controlled delivery system which doesn't deliver?

There was a time in this country with our backs to the walls role up your sleeves and lets clear the snow from our paths, sadly those days have long gone. People live in fear of being sued if they clear there paths, wake up you lot its not against the law so get out there and do something you slobs.

25cm of snow is bad?

People aren't worried about being sued, just lazy.

I have to clear mine after the kids are in bed.

Some do not seem to realise the amount of snow that has fallen in a short space of time, eg the stuff that has shut Heathrow and Gatwick.

It easy to say "THey knew it was coming" but a forecast is just that. The forecast where I live has said heavy snow and then there has been none.

If you get 8 inches of snow dumpe on you and in freezing temperatures you can plow all you want but it has to be constant.

Heathrow has the machines I was watching them on the news yesterday.

Also people are told "Don't travel unless you have to" but hey people have to do their christmas shopping....deserve to get stuck.

Fact: These wintery conditions in the UK are NOT the norm, the trend has been for warmer and wetter winters. If the government had spent billions on salt and snow clearing kit and then we had a mild winter they would have been accused of wasting money. Also take a look at France and Germany, they are not doing much better either.

I really wish Brits would stop moaning and just effing get on with it. I hope moaning is made an olympic sport with various categories. We would be garunteed golds. Then again we would teach everyone else in the world and they would do it better, then we could moan again how we used to be great at a sport....
The problem at the airports isn't the amount of snow because your right, the ploughs can shift it very quickly....the problem is the below freezing temperature that turns it immediately into ice...the ploughs can't lower their blades enough for fear of destroying the runway surface.

I've recently taken to collecting 1/72 die cast aircraft and out of seventeen separate orders in the past fortnight have only received six thus far.

I heard on the news today that Stockholm airport can be cleared of snow and ice in approximately ten minutes....I'd love to know how because we may be able to learn something from them there.

I bet they have heated runways and taxiways.

Makes sense there.

I believe Arlanda uses de-icing chemicals in addition to snow ploughs to keep the runways clear.

They tried that this morning at Heathrow then promptly run out of de-icing chemicals

Arlanda doesn't have runway heaters AFAIK. Takes too long to heat up for it to be practical or something.
