Default Help Please - Exceeded Activations for my Activation Code

Dear Kaleuns,

Once again I hope you can help me.

Over the past 6 months or so I have reinstalled my Windows 7 to 64 bit, upgraded my motherboard to ASUS P5QL/EPU, increased my RAM to 8 GB and at the weekend I upgraded my CPU to a Core 2 Duo E8400 (3 Ghz).

Since my latest upgrade (that of the CPU), I am now getting a request for my Activation Code. When I enter that (I have checked that I have entered it correctly numerous times) I get a message saying that I have exceeded the activations for this Activation Key. I have contacted Direct2Drive (where I purchased the non disk version of SH3) and they have told me to contact Ubisoft. I have tried using the CDROM which asks me for the same with the same results.

Has anybody else experienced this and if so, could you please advise me how you remedied the problem and got SH3 back up and running again?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Rgds

Did you try contacting Ubi?

Best suggestion I can give is to purchase a new one on disc from Amazon. Very cheap, no codes, no Starforce, no disc required to play.

What Steve said.
A newer version is cheaper then 3 Beers at a bar,
removes ALL StarForce crap
(which IS a source of many problems in many areas)
and you need no keys, codes, DVD in the drive, etc....

Your domiciled in the UK yes?

Either get it from the SubSim link (top right) in which case Neal will get a small percentage to help maintain/support our community or get it from here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silent-Hunte.../dp/B000FUCGDY

Either way your copy will be StarForce free and there will be no need to keep the disc in your drive to load the game each time you want to play.

Default Help Please - Exceeded Activations for my Activation Code

Hi Kaleuns,

Thanks very much for all of your advice.

Jimbuna, yes I am in the UK. Could you please tell me, if I buy the SH3 from Neal or Amazon does that involve a complete uninstall and then reinstall? I am just worried that I will (yet again) lose everything that I have done so far. If that is the case, I would appreciate any tips on how to do that without losing careers etc.

If you plan on using GWX, it requires a clean install, so your going to lose the careers anyways. And it's not that big of a deal anyways. I like keeping my careers as much as anybody, but as one lucky DC will show you, careers are fleeting. I betcha theirs guys on here that have played hundreds of careers, probably having forgotten more than I have yet to play.

As long as you save the SH3 folder created in the documents folder you can save your current career. Be sure to take careful note of what mods you have activated so that when you do the new install you can re-start from your last save point. If you activate new mods or leave some out it can cause numerous problems; most prominent one being CTD after loading the save game. My current career has survived 3 transfers now due to all the hardware swapping that's been done to this (and the previous one) current laptop.

Before wiping the disk I take not from JGSME what mods are enabled and their order. Re-enable them with the new install and you should be fine. There is also the appeal of a fresh install, and wanting to start a fresh new career.

Unfortunately the answer is 'YES' but provided you use the same mods your saved careers in C\MyDocs may well be reusable.
