Default Hello! GWX escort question

Hello everyone! Im a long time SHIII player, but took a couple year hiatious. Ive come back to playing and am surprised at the longevity of this game. I registered here because it seems alot more active these days than the ubisoft SHIII forums. Was wondering where everyone went. Now I know.

Anyway, I have a question.. Im running GWX 3.0 gold (no other mods), and in previous careers, even in the early years, the escorts seem alot more agressive. On this career, however the escorts seem totally clueless. Is there anyway that this couldve changed? Its currently May 1940, Im on my 7th patrol, and I still havent been pinged, and have suffered no close depth charge attacks. Just wondering if its luck, skill.. or a LOL code issue.
I would just reinstall SHIII and GWX but dont want to mess up this career.

Edit: Im also running SH3 commander, and had to abandon a previous career, becuase it bacme unloadable because, I think, I accidentaly launcehd SHIII via the gwx short cut not SHIII commander.

It's still early in the war, so consider yourself lucky, they will not be so clueless from here on out.

All three of those come with self-installers and easy instructions, so they should be no problem. As Tarjak said, he and Jimbuna both have GWX links in their sigs.

SH3 Commander can be downloaded here.

SH3 Weather here.

I know sometimes it seems like a boat has a bead on me and will find me even when I'm being real quiet. Other times they seem totally clueless to my position. Is crew experience modeled in any way, to where some boats have a more experienced crew than others? Or is it all just the behind the scenes dice?

Some Units start with better skills then others.
It gets worse as the War goes on because the crews skill levels go up along with the better Sensors.

I wonder if that could be remedied if you sink a lot of destroyers, sub hunters and what-not! LOL. Ya know, keep the crews greenhorns.

All I can say is that I'm glad the escorts aren't good right now. (Late 1940)

No, you're not imagining anything. The escorts suck at the beginning of the war. I'm currently on Type VIIC in the Med right now in March of '42, but after '42 the escorts get really good. I hope to transfer out of the med by the time that happens. The only thing I can say is be thankful that they are terrible and rack up as many kills as you can.

Ok, good to know. I reinstalled, and restarted a career. Guess thier are indeed differing levels of aggresivness with the escorts as well. Hit a convoy last night, got jumped by destroyers, pinged and had 46 depth charges dropped on me. Was able to escape though. October '39.

I noticed that the type IIA sub has poor depth keeping at slow speeds durning that encounter.

It's not just the type II, my type IX has a tendency to sink at slow speeds while I'm trying to avoid detection. Several times now my first officer has had to warn me we're approaching crush depth while I'm busy trying to get away deep and slow.
