That would be true if he was being officially honored, but this was a case of a purple heart winner giving him a cap out of respect. A veteran is free to give his medals, or anything else, to whomever he likes. The boy wouldn't be free to wear the medal, but a cap? Sure.

Yes. It's a ball cap; let him have it. Good on all of them.

My thoughts too. On a side note, I've heard similar types of stories during fleet week with our PT boat. The anti-military types come out of the woodwork. They don't like our pt boat "coz "it's got guns on it".

The only problem with this story is that the idiot who made the kid take the flag down will not be punished. Racial Tensions over the American Flag?? Too freaking bad this is still the USA and as Americans we should have the right to fly the flag anytime we want.

I'd bet several kids in that school have worn T-shirts with the flag on it, yet because this kid made a statement by flying a flag from his bike he was singled out and punished for his patriotism.

It just seems to me that when i was in school teachers had more common sense and disciplining children was part of their job. We all dealt with bullys growing up, Only these kids are never given a chance to develop the skills needed to deal with them.

A simple schoolyard fight now usually ends up with assault charges, sometimes on both kids and normal kids ending up in the justice system over things we all did as kids. I really dread the day these sheltered children end up in the real world, because no one has bothered to teach them that the world isn't all sunshine and lollypops.
