WWII: The American Home Front

Shipping Out!

New York's Penn Station is the site of this 1942 farewell kiss, a scene reenacted thousands of times in train stations across America during the war.

You know, back then when 2000 Americans died at pearl harbor, the whole country mobilized for war
But now, even 9/11 could not convince (most of) the american public to support the war against terror

This is a picture sequence how it was during WWII, and not what happened some 70 years later, a picture story and not on terror on 9 / 11

Different time, different place, different circumstances, different generation.

One could chart some similarities between the two though, at a base level, suicide attacks, fanaticism, so forth.

But not as well defined, I would say. Pearl harbor was attacked by the country of Japan, whereas 9/11 was done by terrorists, or one could even say a relifion. Declaring war on a country strikes me as being more focused than war on terror as a whole.

But that's just me, and we,re getting off topic.

At the risk of taking this topic further off topic, in which case I am willing to stop after this post, but I do agree with you. Furthermore, I find the concept of declaring war on an idea (terrorism) or even a religion to be somewhat hard to follow.

Anyway /off topic.
