Default 4Gb Patch

I hope someone can help. I'm running Windows7 64 bit with 8 Gb of memory. The mod I'm using is LSH5.I cannot apply the 4 Gb patch. I turn off Avast and double-click on the patch icon (as Administrator) and I get a meesage that Windows cannot run the prog. A new window appears with an extra file called 4 Gb patch backup. If I double click on that I get a message asking what program to apply it to.I point it at SHIII and it tells me that the patch has been applied successfully. Have I done everything properly?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, you are simply being informed the original file has been backed up/copied.

I'm not sure if you are right guys.

First fact is, not to install SH3 into the suggested folder within "Program Files". This folder is especially protected by Windows UAC which may lead to some difficulties.
Better create a folder something like: "c:\games\Ubi\SilentHunterIII\" to install the game to.

Next best choise is to start the 4GB_PATCH.EXE per right-click "Run as Administrator" to be sure to have elevated rights.
Allthough I'm logged in as an Administrator e.g. JSGME allways calls Windows UAC to verify its start.

When 4GB_PATCH.EXE is running there is just a dialogue box titled "Select Executable" within this one you navigate to your SH3 installation and select SH3.EXE. Click Open.

The next box "4GB Patch" says "Executable successfully patched!"
Within your game folder now there should be the "sh3.exe.Backup"
NOW your SH3-Installation is correctly patched!

I followed the instructions on sticky thread, i remember putting the 5 files in and one of the files had a reloaded name so that got me confused as to which one im supposed to use now in order to use the 4 gb patch.

this is what the readme says
If you have the Reloaded hacked SH3.exe, use the reloaded patch.
If you have the StarForce free SH3.exe from Ubi, use the StarForce free patch.
If you STILL run the StarForce infested version?
You'll need to find another patch.
I won't waste time patching that.

It depends which version of SH3 you have...

The Reloaded patch includes 5 files, (approved by Ubi to play without the DVD in the drive), whereas the SF free patch is for versions of the .exe which do not include the starforce driver.

If you put the five in previously, (and the game was running okay), then I would think you've probably got the starforce version.

Best to be sure though, so you can always check this way...

Note: There may be a few minor differences (depending on which OS you're using), but the following should give you a general idea of how to check for starforce:

1) Bring up the "System Properties" window by clicking "Start," right-clicking "My Computer" and selecting "Properties" from the dropdown menu.

2) Click on the "Hardware" tab in the "System Properties" window. Select the "Device Manager" button to open the Device Manager, which allows you to search for installed hardware devices.

3) Change your settings in the Device Manager window by clicking "View" and selecting "Show Hidden Devices." This option is turned on when there's a check mark next to its heading. You can verify this by clicking "View" again.

4) Scroll down to find "Non-Plug and Play Drivers." Its icon should appear as a gray diamond. Click the plus symbol to the left of it. This shows you a list of drivers. If StarForce is on your computer, it's listed here as three drivers: StarForce Protection Environment Driver, StarForce Protection Helper Driver and StarForce Protection Synchronization Driver.

Hope this helps and good luck!
