Yeah. My favorite pizza is ham, sausage, mushrooms and olives. My favorite sandwich is ham 'n' cheese. Ham, sausage and bacon are all good with eggs, sometimes even all three together. Don't like bacon in salads, but ham is good.

All-beef wieners? Thanks, I'll have a polish sausage on a bun instead.

Dang, I thought I was full, but now I might need another slice.

Now you did it Steve. Everybody now is going to want to discuss the lowly merits of the TubeSteak.

As long as they stick to the kind of tubesteak that goes on a bun with mustard and catsup, fall back and fire away!

...and now my outing:
Hello, my name is Penguin and I am a vegetarian! And the smell of bacon doesn't really smell appealing to me... - but it neither offends me.
I must say that the best smelling meat to my nose is the one at a bbq - especially when it has been marinaded.
Despite beeing meatfree since almost 19 years I do taste it from time to time, seing if I miss something - guess the german in me needs his sausage from time to time...
For some sorts of meat there are some good substitutes - like for ground meat and yes, even pork - I cook a good veggie gyros - all a matter of seasoning. We have a great chinese restaurant here, they make the best veggie duck in the world - even with the crispy skin! On the other hand there are some distinctive flavors of meat where I haven't found a substitute for, game and bacon fall into this category.

I support the idea of a vegetarian recipe threat, not with recipes where you just change the meat to a vegetarian alternative, but where the whole composition is coherent without meat - like in many indian dishes. Though I am too sick and uncreative to write about recipes atm.

I don't know about you, but bacon frying is a pleasant, no great smell, to me. Jews aren't great on pork either, but you don't hear them complaining about others cooking pork.

Ahh is that the smell of bacon? or is it the stench of 'selective' horse manure.

pure tabloid gold !!!

If it was any one else complaining about the smell of any other type of food it wouldnt even be a story!
There must be thousand of cases where residents have complained about the smells from extractor fans from cafes and takeaways, hell I used to live next door to a chinese and my flat mate complained about the stench to the council - why didnt he end up in the papers I wonder?

Also British people complain about the noise from local pubs all the time, though I bet if a muslim complained about that - we'd have to accuse him of enforcing the islamic law which forbids alchahol consumption!

Thankfully most people arent stupid enough to take this kind of thing seriously,
But of course there will be a select few unable to join up the dots, who cry:

"Ohh look everyone, the evil muslims took away our freedom to cook bacon... Jews would would never do this" (or perhaps they would, but the media just woudn't treat it as news worthy since we are not at war with the Jews )

They call that news? its ****ing pathetic.

P.S I'll also remind The Third man that Britian supported the U.S in both Iraq and Afgahnistan where we lost and continue to loose many of our troops.
-and you call us a 'surrender nation afraid of Muslims'.... Very Nice, why dont you fly over here and say that to the millions of brits who backed you in the war on terror over the last decade.

LOL yeah but the Jews pretty much own everything, you guys have done well for your selves I guess

Oh wow it just gets better, if you read the full artical, it turns out the cafe owner them selves are Turkish Muslim and person complaining is actually a non-muslim (complaining that the smell offends his muslim friends.) WTF?
Talk about 'twisting things around'.

The Daily mail basically went - Woopee! lets turn this trivial matter in to Ground zero mosque the sequel, who knows, maybe the English defense league will be dumb enough to organise a pro-bacon rally! What a hoot !

Sorry is anyone actually taking any of this seriously?

I believe there may have been a very short period of "taking it seriously" before someone said the magic word ("BACON!"), after which the rest of the thread turned into a discussion of the participants' eating habits and pork product preferences.

^^
lol Bacon and spaniels ears... Dowly must be having apoplexy right now

I recently spent 10 days staying at a friends place in wales - he's a vegetarian and would not let us cook any meat in his house. We were there doing some building work to help him out. Most of the food we ate was veggie. As a confirmed omnivore, I don't mind the alternatives to proper meat, but I did find a noticeable lack of energy/warmth that I don't normally experience. Not to mention some of the worst windy-pops ever
We had several trips to the nearest town for macdonalds burgers (not the best, but better than no meat whatsoever).

I must say this has made for interesting reading, while I eat my helping of bacon. (precooked)

Also, in response to this post:

which is where I left off reading last time, I must say that I pity your pre-vegetarian self. Bacon cheeseburgers are probably the greatest thing invented since sleep and bacon. And oxygen.
