Default time compression above 1024

Is there a mod that will allow you to do it, without too many problems?

I <3 SHIII but I have a pretty busy life, so i don't always have 2-4 hours to sit down and do a patrol, and I'm tired of saving midway, and ending up with a corrupted save.

Yea, you can edit some game files (I don't know what they are off the top of my head) but going above that makes the game unstable I believe.

You can go up to x8192 using SH3 Commander but you will need to be playing on an extremely high end system to have it running anywhere near smooth.

You will also experience a lack of airpower and more than likely be destroyed before the game can return to x1 in the event of a hostile attack.

That would certainly solve the problem of not having enough time to sit down and finish a patrol.

Quicker than a single mission I reckon

4096 would be enough...it's just that I do spend a lot of time traveling over empty ocean looking for boats, or waiting for a convoy position to get radioed in. If I do run across hostiles while going above 1024 will it still throw up that menu asking what if I want to dive, maintain orders etc?

Maybe I just need to buy a netbook, so I can surf the web, and IM people while leaving SH3 running all the time on my main PC....

If your settings are at x1 for when enemy ships or planes are detected the game should do just that but in the split second it takes in RL could be a few minutes in game time which could prove fatal.

One way of detecting something in the area is to watch your fps because they usually suffer a drop momentarily....but still a risky business IMHO.

If you click the little box in the corner before selecting you will never see the message again.

And whichever option you chose in that instance will become the default response every time it happens again. So unless you always want to do the same thing in response to a particular contact/threat/etc., don't check it!

For instance, at 4096 TC, one second elapsed in real time = 68.67 minutes. Even if the game drops to 1 TC in a quarter of a second, you've already lost over 15 minutes of response time. The enemy AI hasn't.

I always check it just to get it out of the way. Of course my default response is "Do Nothing".

I do the same, "Maintain Current Orders" is my default option.

But if someone wants that box to pop up every time (which I think is the OP's preference) then checking the "set as default" box is not the way to go.

Altho IIRC someone posted on this before and indicated that the game does not actually pause when the box pops up... I suppose it does drop out of TC though.

I dunno, I think maybe if you're hitting ESC to do a save while in high TC maybe it makes a difference? But OTOH I thought the game dropped to 0 TC and paused when you hit ESC.

Anyway I use TC (rarely over 128 though), but my SOP for making a save is to submerge first and check the phones for contacts, then surface and ask the WO if we have any visual contacts. I go to the bridge for that to have a look around myself and that drops me to 1 TC if I wasn't there already.
