Hi all, after not playing sh5 for a while i recently installed it again. I expected it to run like it did on my old OS (XP Pro) but I also upgraded to Win 7 and now the framerate looks choppy. According to the ingame fps thingie the framerate is fluctuating between 60 and 110 while outside; exactly what I had on XP. But it doesn't look smooth at all; it just keeps on being jerky.
My pc is perfectly capable of running the game even on Win7 so I am at a loss here. I looked at my monitor's refresh rate and tried disabling and enabling vsync and triple buffering but no effect...also tried with low AA and AF setting but no luck. Does anyone know of a fix for this? I'm running the game @ 1680x1050 at 60Hz on a HD4870 Toxic, I have 4 gigs of memory and a Core2Duo @ 3,2 Ghz. I really hope I can get this sorted... |

What is your video memmory? i have almost 1800MB of video RAM and it can sometimes be completely full. Although this only happens when I'm near a large port with a ton of ships near or inside it.

Video memory is 1 gig and yes when i encounter a busy port the framerate does drop, but the choppiness i mentioned above is on an empty sea.
I read something about forcing triple buffering through Ati Tray Tools but unfortunately the game doesn't even start with that enabled. |

Woohoo thnx Sober, Antilag did the trick!!!
![]() Just had to limit the fps to stay beneath the value of the refresh rate, worked like a charm... Off to sea ![]() |

When you say "below the refresh rate", do you mean the screen frequency rate (mine is 60 Hz)?

Yes i mean the screen frequency...appearantly the choppiness is caused when you have vertical sync enabled and the framerate drops below that value of 60. Normally you would enable triple buffering to get rid of that behaviour but somehow that isn't very well implemented in SH5 with ATi cards. So by limiting the fps so that it doesn't get over 60 you cancel that issue out... |
