The Letterman link led me to this, which is right up there with Frau K's 'phonebook' comment.

By the way, I once saw Charlton Heston actually read the phone book on a comedy show. It was pretty impressive.

Actually, re T.E. Lawrence's sexuality, the old "gay theory" that was bandied about in the 1950s (and which surely influenced O'Toole's portrayal) has been discredited since then. The truth, to the extent it can be determined, is considerably more complicated than I can go into here.

Suffice it to say that a certain type of individual, due to a variety of experiences, will eventually give up on the whole idea of mating with anyone. Lawrence couldn't even bear to shake hands, and was thought by his own brother to be a virgin his entire life. I have known people like that, and they can be extraordinary (and messed-up at the same time).

Celebacy is not wrong for some people.

My reference was to O'toole, who is gay, although too old to practice, and has a modicome of self control, which keeps him out of the gay pride BS.

I know, I totally watched that one. I wish it was a series.

@ The Third Man, Thanks for the clarification. I've not read or heard anything substantive regarding O'Toole, either. Still, nothing would surprise me.

Come to think of it, today may have been "Charlton Heston Day" because they ran Midway this afternoon. Earlier they ran In Harm's Way - is he in that? I didn't watch any of their programming today because I was occupied *cough* Project Runway marathon *cough* with other things.

No, he wasn't in In Harm's Way, and you're better off not seeing Midway.

I wonder who both movies have in common. It's surely not John Wayne... Henry Fonda? Could've been one of the "lesser" players I guess.

Anyway - I tried to watch Midway once but I couldn't get through it. And as I've said before, if they want to make a movie about the PTO and have me root for our side, they really shouldn't put Toshiro Mifune in charge of the Japanese navy.

I agree.

And oh BTW someone should tell Sean Connery that this:

is how you rock the hotpants.
