Default When Tyranny comes knocking.

Let's see if we can run this thread as a exchange of ideas and helpful things to survive these trying times ,I know it doesn't help listening too Beck, Rush , Hennity and Levin all day no wonder I'M wacked. Let it go where it wants to. There might be some advice out there that, just might help someone. Venting welcome. Would be interersted in some of you guys survival skills. Me USMC combat engineer 80/84, knew some of the guys that died in the Barracks bombing in Beirut, hell it was a whole company Com Company 8th Engineer Battalion 2nd FSSG, their barracks was next to mine. If we took care of business back then we wouldn't have the problems we have now. Talking nicely to tyranny won't stop it.

I think if we "took care of business" back then we would still be occupying Iran today.

...yea it was them...

Sadly the US has done just that in many cases...

Sure the US is tough on tyrannical regimes which are not friendly to the US. . but not otherwise even quite tolerant.

Imo terrorism is an ideology(idealism) which should be fought with guess what opposing ideology(idealism).

And try to stop reinforcing their belief in the ideology of terrorism done from the US side.

The only reason why we are in the sand is because of oil. You can see what the occupation of Iraq got us . Thank You Mr Bush. If they only grew turnips who'd care. In Islams eye either you are or you're dead reason with that. AND why are liberal democrats embrassing Islam.

Default survival tips?

Some domestic, some not:

Only fill your kettle with as much water as you are going to use - it takes less electricity to boil that water and therefore less money to pay for that electricity.

Switch off lights when you're not in the room.

If your bread is a little bit mouldy, toast it. Bread mould never killed anyone.

Use a microwave to cook with - it costs less than using an electric or gas hob.

Make meals to freeze instead of buying overpriced crap from supermarkets - it's also healthier.

Don't rely on anyone but yourself; because when the time comes, the closeness you feel towards another only serves to emphasize the true gulf between you.

Cotton wool balls soaked in a little bit of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) make good emergency tinder and will take a spark from flint and steel, even when wet and will burn longer than cotton wool on its own.

Keep your knife sharp at all times - a blunt knife is a dangerous knife.

If it feels wrong, then it probably is.

When building a fire, construct a wind-break heat reflector to direct heat back at you eg wattle & daub fence (or whatever). Preferably have your back to something similar too. If no materials are available stack gear/bergens behind you as a wind break.

WATER: without it you'll last 2 days at 48c if you sit in the shade and do nothing. If you have to walk anywhere in 48c you could perhaps cover 25 miles walking at night. During the day, perhaps a little as 5 miles. At 48c with 2L of water, you might last 3 days and travel 35 miles.
Drink 1.5L for every 2 lost.

hah - beware Greeks bearing gifts This thread seemed to change as I was writing this, so perhaps I'm waaay off the mark lol

So, because we do not like the current administration and it's policies we're going to get ourselves a nitro-charged 1973 Ford Falcon GT and run down The Toecutter.

is that really true? If you have to cook something from scratch (as opposed to just heating up something already cooked) does a microwave use less energy than gas?

^^

me ma swears by it - she cooks meat and veg, curries and all sorts from scratch. obviously you don't get the nice 'crackling' on meat etc but it works ok.
She's really anal about the leccy bill so I guess there's a decent comparison if only anecdotal and not entirely scientific..
There's a few google searches that seem to indicate cost vs time comparisons with traditional stoves and microwave cooking.

If he does it before they run over his wife and child does it become a timely idea?

I was always surprised that society is breaking down and yet you can make a living selling ice cream.
