Default Crash to Desktop

Every 5-20 minutes it will just crash to desktop with no message or anything.. just all of a sudden, My desktop..

Is there a fix for this? Or a common issue?

Yes.. While playing.. within 5-20 minutes, it will just crash.. Not pressing anything in particular, I could just be on the bridge, in the captains bed

My humble appoligies, but have since observed you opened another new thread about sh5, one can rule out my original question on this thread. Simply to keep the ravenous mob at check. Arclight is a good fellow to help with pc issues. Also if it is hardware related the pc issues room.

You rang, m'lord?

First guess; heat related and/or give the HD a good defrag. Heat seems most likely.

*any error report, or just "disappears"?

list your computer specs as it is very likely your reaching the memory limits of your system as the game saves data as you play and when it runs out of space to save data it is causing the crashes

The reason I ask if there is a fix or something, is because my limited search, found a couple people saying "I fixed the CTD issue"
and also I saw some people posting their "mods" and they as well have a mod that says CTD fix. Or is this some sub term I am unaware of?

I had this game from day one, played for about 20 or so hours worth (Maybe more) never had one issue.

Since last week or so, I put the DVD back in and started to play, of course with the new patch and some new (basic and very popular) mods.

and now I am getting this CTD issue.. So is this a common thing or a very UNcommon thing?

As for the list of my computer? Here ya go, its nothing special but it plays this game just fine, actually play Crysis at pretty high res too.

ok your system specs look ok (not sure if you have the latest bios, but then im not sure if i do either lol)

i have the Q9550 with Gigabyte P35-DS3L and 4gb ram and a GT8800 @ 512mb video so we are pretty close to the same and i have no issues with the game.

just be sure you have the latest video drivers installed and i would check if there is a bios update for that board (its been a while so i need to check my bios too)

check for dust build up or slow turning fans, open the heat sink cover on the video card as dust will pack into areas you dont see and block airflow even though it looks ok.

if its not a heat related issue as Arclight suggested then chances are its a mod combo issue so give us the mods your using and the install order you used. also i would try my mod soup fix first before getting too involved in troubleshooting to see if thats all it is.

If you are running Env 3.2, it is possible that it is causing your CTDs. Me and W_clear have not yet worked all of the CTDs out of it yet. Sorry for the inconvenience if this is the case.
