Default Ever wonder what the place in that WW2 picture looks like today?

Sometimes when I see old pictures of WW2, I imagine what the place in the photo looks like today. This is a blog that shows exactly that - the photographer goes to the exact spot where the old picture was taken and the melds the two together. Pretty awesome!

While this is interesting, I think I would have preferred to see both pictures unmerged next to each other.

I looked around but couldn't find it right now. Some guy(?) went along the western front and took pictures as comparison without merging them together. I'll see if I can dig 'em back up again.

OMG I love these pictures I'll have the one in the OP printed into a poster, will look good on the wall, very art-like

Great find, a lot of them are quite beautifully done, altrough some have to rough transition, could have looked better

The one with the train on the street is superb, like a ghost

Wow

I have to say, though, if I had those pictures I could do so much to blend them together... but what he's done is really cool

Now I prefer to see them merged. The problem i always have with comparison pictures is that the perspective changes. Yeah it's the same landmark in the background but the angle isn't exactly the same so it gets difficult to place where individual things actually were.

This guy adjusts them so they are in sync with each other. That anti-tank gun in the 8th picture sat right there, two feet from what is now a curb. You could literally stand in their exact footsteps. That is very cool.

I'd like to see the two pictures overlaid, and be able to switch between them to compare. That way you can see the detail in each picture, as well as compare then and now. Maybe a slider bar to adjust transparency?

Good thinking. I have a picture book of various Roman buildings then and now that uses overlays like that. They're all paintings though of course.

That's a cool idea.

I couldn't believe that there are some guys commenting on one blog that this was a rubbish use of photoshop.

I wish I could get larger images, ie able to print decently on A3 at work on our plotter.

Some would make great pictures if plotted onto canvas.

Some to them are larger than the one Mookie posted in the OP. The one I mention above for example was so big that I had to take it out of my post, so you might find something suitable if you look.

I tried making one myself. It's not that hard as long as both shots are close to the same angle.
