Yeah, gotta say, I had the same initial reaction when I read SS's comment. I may be a bit too close to GWX, but I would never say that the graphics are what puts GWX ahead of the others. In fact, IMHO, WAC has prettier graphics.

GWX fixes a lot of things under the hood, that could easily be "lost" amongst its "pretty graphics", but I guarantee they would be noticed if they weren't there. Graphics won't get you to South East Asia, The Black Sea etc and so on.

Sometimes it's the things you don't see that actually make the greatest impact.

And this is a shame. I remember when I first released SH3Cmdr. It was met with a lukewarm reception. So Beery and I decided to throw some screenshots of pretty, but unrelated, ships into one of the release threads. The rest is history...

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not dismissing GWX in any way, shape or form. I stood up for GWX when people were saying it was just a graphics mod. But I have to ask: Is the AI in GWX better than any other? Is the way the u-boats handle better than any other? The people who stand by NYGM do so for a reason, and it ain't because of the way it looks!

Call it my opinion if you want, but when I play, I play GWX almost exclusively, and I do so mainly because of the cool stuff to see more than any other reason. Take it that way if you like, but what I said was not a put-down at all, and I stand by it.

Also, it might be a good idea to read the posts I was addressing. Context is everything.

I play once in a while until I get frustrated. Then I jump over to play SH4 and its like a feeling of relief that everything works. For now I will play SH4 mainly until the bugs are out and modders turn it into something more enjoyable. Maybe you guys should petition Ubisoft for a portion of their profits for fixing and completing the game ..

I'm not. SH3 was awesome... after it was modded to the hilt. When I look at SH5's outstanding graphics and models, and imagine it modded to the hilt. For me SH5 is where I'll spend my time at sea.

I remember like it was yesterday.... staring at the map and holding the manual and learning about the game and u-boats.
When I played the game I realy felt like I WAS there in the sub.

I remember even learning about setting attacks like Otto Kretschmer.
The videos with the captains and crew talking how it was to be there where JUST GREAT.

Saddly, I don´t have the game anymore. Lost it way back when I moved out of town
Hate to say it, but well...you CAN still get it. I had Command Aces back in the day and stupidly sold it when I thought that games would keep getting better and better and so no need to keep the old ones What a fool, eh?

Actually that did it for me, plus all other bugs and design flaws i did put up with over the week. I cant play rubbish like that anymore. So back to SH3 + GWX Gold + SH Commander and what a dream simulation!!!!!!
I agree 110%. Back to sh3 + gwx.

SH3 has been off the HD for many months now as SH4 with OM covers the ATO very well.

I am well into a SH5 career and all I can say is that in spite of a list of 'wants' this thing is awesome! I really like the new concept and how it all meshes.

As for an DRM related connection issues I have yet to experience them. I believe the days there were issues I was busy with other matters and was working with the single missions late at night.

Overall I give it a 8/10. This is a departure on what the 'community' is used to, and as always expectations were not met on many fronts. But that does not discount the fact that this is truly a gem in the rought.

But even so its delivering entertainment and fun. I am running with only a mod for AI sensor and Sub physics.

To quote one of the greatest sailors of all time, "I've stood all I can stands and I can't stands no more!"

The modders have done a great job of making the thing workable but the AI is just driving me nuts.

Enemy merchants in the Kiel Canal.

RAF night patrols by Hawker Hurricanes, that never spot you in daylight!

DDs that ignore you, even when you just sunk one of their buddies.

Getting rammed by a destroyer and suffering absolutely no damage.

Someone drops a d/c a mile away and I take 60% damage, crew screaming "Flooding is out of control!" when system panel says no flooding, Engineer who gives lecture on staff motivation when asked to repair damage. Damage not repaired in port, but after logging out and back in again, all damge repaired and 1500 extra renown points.

Sight enemy sub on surface, conduct perfect end around, as I get into firing position enemy sub turns away and its back end submerges while the front stays afloat. TDC will not recognise target, which is now doing about 12 knots away from me. Surface and try to engage with gun. Gun will only hold target for two rounds at a time. Unable to get range, man gun myself and actually hit the sub, which dives. Crash dive myself, sound man cannot pick up enemy. Try sonar myself and CTD.

This is beyond a joke. I'm gone now until the next patch, when I'll try again, but I don't hold much hope.

I'm currently playing SH3 + GWX3 (bloody fantastic mod by the way), while I wait for Ubi to do something about their damned Ucan'tplay rubbish (here's hoping). While I like SH4, it's just not the same.

I'm not completely defending SH5 in it's current state, but most of what you just mentioned can be totally corrected through mods.

I think, for many first adopters, it's a bit too early to play the game in it's current state.

Perhaps for them it isn't such a bad decision to let SH5 for what it is and give it some time to let SH5 grow.

I totally agree! Now playing SH5 ... bad weather and crew has 'normal' clothes, ...

Were is my grid map? Ubi forgot this one too. And a "normal" speed or course setting dials?

And there is much more I could write about this incomplete game.

As stated above, better wait for our subsim modders. They probably will finish the game as it should be.

Ubi thought about graphics in SH5, that's all. Real realism is gone ...

@ Everyone with negative remarks regarding SH5,

Please go check the download section, and maybe leaf through the modding forum before posting more negative stuff about SH5. With the patches, and the huge amount of work that has already been done by us, SH5 is perfectly playable and in my opinion quite enjoyable. Sure, there is still much work to be done, but we are working on it every day, and every day things get better.

I am sorry Rafeal, I have nothing against you personally, I am just getting sick and tired of people saying that SH5 as it stands is unplayable. You are right that the modders will complete the came, but saying you should wait right now basically tells us that everything done up until now is not good enough for you.
