Default arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

i'd just finished the britsh supplies mission, id made about 60,000 tons in one patrol, because i blew up and aircraft carrier and several large ship and without missing a single torpedo shot. feeling quite proud i decieded to head for home with only 1 torpedo left and around 25 round for the deck gun. I took the long route home from southern irish waters, throught the atlantic and around scotland. just after passing past scapa flow (around 45km off) i encounter a cargo ship, i blew it up and then with around 10 rounds for the deck gun left i really new it was time for home. Right in the middle of the north see im going home at full speed( x4028, travel mode off) and for no apparent reason BOOM!!!!. time returns to x1 speed with a shaking camera and leaks i hear the bosun saying " we're in shallow waters captain", i was surfaced and in the middle of the north sea, with no enemy contacts near me. then that was it game over, PC through window and me really annoyed. I spent over 2.5 hours on this patrol.

now i know your going to say that i should save more often, but it doesnt remove the fact that i was blew up by nothing, for no reason.

Yep. Save more often, especially if you know the game can be wonky.

Just thinking out loud here...

Assuming you were at ahead standard, at 4028X your boat is travelling at appx 44,000 mph. In the 1 second the game takes to return to normal time after an event, over an hour has passed in game time. That was plenty of time for a destroyer to sail up, put several rounds into you, and sail merrily off into the sunset.

As far as the "shallow waters" report the game seems to save up the last verbal response appropriate from before you set the time comprression off. It probably has nothing to do with what got you.

TC has always been wonky in the post SH2 series. You should always use it with caution.

yes but the game normally drops the speed to x32 especially when not in travel mode.

I've taken the advice to never go above x128 TC, for just the reasons you mentioned. It makes for some boring stretches , sort of like real life, but I've never been instantly killed.

Cool!

So, what do the numbers mean? Specifically, the ones following the commas.

Ok, well you have your normal time compression button . The numbers before the comma is those numbers . The numbers after the comma are for the Travel button that is to the right of the time compression button . So basically use your Travel button at max 32X time compression (with my settings) for travelling when too close to land like when in port or when you want to TC while behing detected or detecting . Travel mode is dangerous because it bypasses the travel warnings and doesnt drop you out of TC if you were going to hit something . Travelling at max 256X it has taken me 3 months to finish the first campaign but it was fun .

As I understand it, these define what your game will drop the TC to given one of these conditions.

The number after the comma is what the game will use if you have travel mode switched on.

When I was playing the game I changed my detection TC to
EnemyDetected=1,1

So that regardless of whether I was in travel mode or not, TC would drop to 1 on enemy contact.

No more materialising in the middle of a Brit Taskforce with bugger all warning

EDIT: Dammit. Sober beat me to it!
