Thanks for the posts and Steve, I usually read reports but havent read much on U boats, most of my my reading has to do with the PTO and US fleetboats so was just wondering how it worked in the game for German torpedos.

YOU DONT GET CREDIT

factos of life but its a bummer.

If you torpedo a ship and its bow digs 25 feet down into the ocean and it is laden with sea water... the bastard ought to slow down i would think.

but thats just me thinking again - frequently gets me into trouble.

i use the same tactic with SH5 as i did with previous editions. Send a spread of two fish at anything over 5,000 grt.

this strategy does not seem to do me much good in SH5.

brf and damage assessment solves this.

Pretty much. Still no 1 hit wonders every time though, that was never the aim. 2-3 on average, 1-2 for the small merchants and tankers, 3-4 for the large tankers.

This seems to be more historically correct.

Remember some of the ships england (and latter USA) were using to carry cargo were so old and rusted out, all the uboat had to do was FART in thier General Direction and they would sink . Others were so NEW they would take multiple hits.

The other SH5 vanilla does NOT simulate well is flooding.... but BARF mod helps with this.

I know, and I apolgize. I've just been spending too much time trying to straigten out the gamers who think one quote somewhere proves the game needs to be "fixed". You're not one of them.

i think you want to hit the keel a few feet or maybe meters below it and have it go off on mag. det. and that is how you see ships practicly snap like a toothpick out of the water.

i tried it in the first patch of sh5 and using the torp cam it seemed bugged and never would go off. And trust me i tried it a lot. Only a direct contact det ever worked, but i got 1 torp 1 kill shots many times in SH5 with the BARF mod and Torp Crit Hit mod. All were direct contact as close on the keel as i could though, no pressure bubble mag det below the ship keel worked.... maybe later in the campaign but i wouldnt put money on it.

Ok fair enough.

BUT

if i have to sink 200K tons (historically a little less than the highest scoring U-boat ace in ww2 history) - AND im going to have to blow all four tubes at each target.

then please ubi... give us more than 6 months in game to complete this superhuman task.

as for now... i guess ill sink 2 or 3 go back to port... refit... go back out... sink a couple more... go back to port... refit... go back out... sink a couple more.

perhaps after a year or two in game i will have met the 200K tons requirement.

so, how long does it take you to sink a few. i barely ever find any. ive only found 4 singles and 2 convoys. and never really was able to capitalize on the convoy thing. there either escorts or i cant surface to finish them cause they all freaking have deck guns all of a sudden. i was pretty optimistic about completing this objective, but now its proving to be extremely tough
