If your feeling very brave/lucky and don't mind the repeated need to dive to avoid aircraft you can move to this area and catch just about everything coming out of and going into the Med whilst still having some deep water for evasive movement.

I travel around the grid area during the night and lie submerged, listening, during the day.

I go to that point periodically throughout the war but especially if I happen to be passing in the vicinity enroute to another area.

If ever you get stuck for deciding on where to hunt always try and identify chokepoints for your kills,and ideally in open sea/ocean . Naturally the Gibraltar strait is possibly the most famous chokepoint on the map due to the very narrow opening,but is also a death trap for the unwary...be warned
If you want to hang out around there,just draw a line bearing west from Gibraltar and park anywhere where the sea gets deeper,you should still detect MANY contacts as they come and go!
Another good spot is the chokepoint between the Shetlands and the Faroes? (NE of the tip of Scotland) , lots of cargo passes through this area.
And if you like sinking oil (which I do!) and you are in the vicinity don't forget the various chokepoints near Florida,many tankers usually pass through that area heading north from S America.I remember nailing loads of tankers once in an old career out there.The only problem is,it takes bloody ages just to get out there!

Different people have different techniques. Personally early in the war (1939-40 and 1941-42 in the US Coast) I tend to spend most of the time in the surface diving periodically to check for contacts. That gives me a lot of maneuverability and I can cover large areas. During this period I do almost all my attacks (even on convoys) while being on the surface.

As the war progresses I tend to travel on the surface and dive every 2-3 hours to avoid detection by planes. While submerged I continue on my search pattern in order to cover as much distance as possible.

Late in the war (Late 1943 until the end) I tend to spend as much time submerged as possible. I get on the surface only at night and only to recharge the batteries.

scenario,of course, people use different stand to gain,I accordingly whit my rules to go down and long-term listen.So my limitation not stop me,flexible in every kind of situation are to prefer,......THX for your wide-ranging support....

Shetland are to be 10-top`s U-boats fairground....

Early war:
Type VII, VIIB: AM53, BF13
Type IX, IXB: AM19, CG95

Later war:
Type VIIB, VIIC: AM19
Type IXB, IXC: BC43 (preferred), BC68 (when neccesary)

I only use X-series,some exception are available,however.the are plenty of good waters,when you can stay and fish

I normally start in December 1939,and after that is be IXC or In the end IXD2,but it could be XXI,but a like more and "open boat" so now I use IXC,Aug. 1942,so yes I prefer those boats
