Still need to understand reflections, transparency of water and skins so very slow progress.

Big cheer for MLF I think there are other guys working on this and I think you've just stolen some of their thunder. That'll teach 'em for taking so long to share their results

Is the model from SH3? It looks kinda low-res.

Don't mean to steal any thunder - not seen a lot on this forum about it really. Don't know how far I'll go as it is very very time consuming. Don't suppose I've discovered anything new, but it shows that things can be done. The model is from SH4 but as I said, still got to get skins, caustics, water run-off etc working.

The Type 14 is easily downloadable if one cares to look.
It has Caustics, correct waves, and is constantly being added to.
There's even instructions on HOW to do it.
So who's not shareing?

Hi Privateer,

Yeah, it was your work on the 14 that gave me the umph to have a go at the 9. Don't see too much on this forum though. Thought initially of starting with the Sampan!!!!

Hi MLF,

The ships will be much easier as there are way, WAY less effects needing adjusted or added.

Open one of the FX.GR2 files for the Subs in Granny Viewer and check the Bones!

Then look at a Ship.

The Type 14 is not being done like the current German AI Subs.
They are missing alot of the effects player Subs have.
It will have all the effects of a player Sub.

If I get the 9 somewhere near an SH5 AI sub I would have learnt a great deal. Playable? I'll leave that to people like your good self.

Is anyone else looking at the SH4 ships, do you know?

MLF

PS: I also learnt how to post pictures and links on Subsim today - not bad for someone who "joined up" in 2002

JU_88 is learning to import Aircraft right now.
He then may try a Ship or so.
Hopefully, I'll have Ref's Ship Converter ready soon.
That will save ALOT of time and effort.

I wonder if someday some1 will add midget subs to ride horseback
for superduPer L33t Missions

so a mini sub that separates/detaches from the mother ship to sneak into
harbors to plant mines

play with that & go with it ..you know you want to

Here's some info to help you assign the water-streams controllers.

I'll be doing images like this for all the effects nodes.

I would imagine re-texturing a whole boat is a pretty serious job just by itself.

Ah-ha - the next challange Thanks for the info, Privateer. I'll just spend a little bit more time on the reflections and then look at the water streams.

For reflections I have been adjusting the "waterReflection@......" parameter which I have created in the sim file (having deleted it in the dat file). I have made the parameters the same as those for the VII's. Doing that has got rid of the great 'V' or 'U' shape darkness behind the sub (I see you initially had the same on the 14), but I don't get the reflection of the boat in the water - more than likely another parameter I also do not get water transparency around the boat.

As I said - long ways to go for me. Just thought I would throw it out to the community to see if anybody else was doing the same model - avoid duplication. Seems there are few people looking at new ships, boats and planes.

I wonder why many of you moders are working outside subsim, what's the reason to keep your work a secret? As far as I know, subsim is the best, if not the only place to look for SH mods. If the mod is not listed here, it not exist. Also, here is the community who can give a valid feedback about the mods, another reason to work here and not behind the stage. Same as TDW, Reaper and others do, constantly improving their work based on the community feedback.

I'm very happy to see and watch MLF WIP and I would be delighted to see other mods shaping out here, so we get hopes for improvements in SH5.
