This is not a rant, neither is it a critisism of the game.. its more like a..was it really this easy/am i cheating? I am sinking way too much, way too easy.
heres my setup. patch 1.5 with the following mods: RFB_2.0 RFB_2.0_patch_23April2010 RSRDC_RFB_V575 RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1 Spaxs SH4 Uboat SPEECH FIX_V8 heres how i usually do it. i leasury move towards whatever mission im on. During this time, i order the scout planes to scout ahead of me. Whenever they find something i mark the spots and set an intercept course. When im at the right spot, ahead of the convoy/task force. i set myself up for a shot at about 3000-4000 meters, which lets the leading escorts pass me at quite a distance, even flanking escorts pass me obliviously. I map their speed, heading and distance with great care and set my torpedo settings accordingly (all manual) and launch them at the right time. and heres the kicker, i never fire at more than 1 ship. and i hit whatever i fire at 99% of the time and when i have fired my torpedoes, i go silent, deep and slow and i never attack the same convoy again. i just slip away and when the convoy is gone, i again start heading for my objective having the scout planes searching for other convoys. Using this approach i attack multiple convoys during 1 voyage, never gets too close and never tangle with the escorts......and in all honesty.. its too easy to rack up too much tonnage. but.. what else can i do? i have my realism settings at 100%..yet.. i dont want to make it more difficult just because i can (im a uboat captain, within the rules of the game, i want to do my best). the only thing i can do to make it even more difficult is to remove the auto map updates... but that will only make the actuall torpedo solutions more difficult.. my main point here is that, its too easy to attack convoys in the first place. keep your distance, stay quite, slow and deep, and you always get away ![]() Anyone have any thoughts about this? nappy |

Are you playing U-Boat or fleet boat?
With either, long range shots at a convoy like that with no follow-up are pretty easy pickings, so long as you hit the target. Even going deep isn't necessary, just turn tail and run away as soon as the shots leave the tube. This is pretty authentic. In real life the captain would be cut off at the knees for not following up on the same convoy. It's fairly safe to do that as long as you turn tail as above, do and end-around to the other side of the convoy and repeat the procedure. I usually close to under 2,000 yards with TMO and love to get on the unescorted side of the convoy, get in under 500 yards and conserve torpedoes. Actually I like your strategy. Try it with TMO if you need more danger. ![]()

If you're at 100% with cams and contacts off, as RR said, try TMO..
I found with cams and contacts off it's a fairly real game. Sometimes I'll leave contacts on and cams off, but cams off makes it much more real. Really we don't have the proper radar to play with contacts off, but you can still get enough info that I find it more realistic, certainly much harder using the poor radar and sonar we have, but it is enough, just slow play as you're doing many jobs. I don't have a problem using pause with contacts off to track. Hopefully the radar mod will be done soon, with that contacts off would be a good game. |
