S-18 and TDC issues

2nd mission in a campaign in early 1942. Locked on a Nippon Maru. Firing solution was good per the Attack Map. First three bow shots missed. Two aft shots missed. Then a last gasp bow shot missed. All were at under 1,000 yds. The torpedo did not follow the gyro angle set by the TDC. I gave up on the mission (I was out of torpedoes anyway!). Anyone experienced this phenomenon? When do I get a new boat.

The torpedoes did not run to deep. They missed the target.

You must be playing stock then? If the torpedoes didn't make the turn indicated by the TDC it is a torpedo malfunction, which does happen at times.

In what way were they missing? Did they just go in a straight line or were they turning, but onto an incorrect course? Sounds odd! Was the position keeper working properly or was your sub making a turn at the time?

Also, surely you weren't in an S-18 if you had stern tubes as well?!

Playing TMO 1.9 with RSRDC.

For the stern shots I was turning. Maybe that caused them to miss. I thought I was in an S-18.

For the bow shots, I stationary for the first 3 and moving forward on the 4th. My TDC settings were right on the money on each of the shots. Subpac must have changed my boat when I wasn't looking. I am in a Porpoise

...and don't forget to open your tube doors before firing. I make that mistake a bit.

there's an S-boat in that lil pic. sometimes when you fire torpedos at one target and then swich to the next the tdc will keep the bearing of the last thing you shot at and you'll have to hit the red button on the parascope or your torpedos will go sailing off in an unwanted direction.

I took him to mean his attack map showed the torpedo path intersecting with his chosen target. If that's so, then torpedo malfunction is the most likely cause. The attack map will show if you have left previous settings active.

I missed that reference to the stern tubes! Hey, you have air conditioning now. How could you miss THAT?

Default rockin robbiins is correct.

I had reset the TDC, as the "X" intersected my boat.

I meant to say the "X" intersected the target. Rockin Robbins is probably correct. The TDC was not working correctly. On the aft shots, I may have missed because my boat was turning and the TDC was not working correctly.

p.s. I miss the captains who sailed of the SH5. And where is Ducimus?

As was stated above any new target bearing must be re-entered into the TDC. This can only be done by setting the range again. One of the SH4 annoyances. If you indeed have a proper solution and turn on tracking (red light) it should do this automatically. I think. I never turn on tracking because I hadn't had luck with it. A weakness on my part.

Did you turn on tracking? If not shooting at multiple target bearings get to be complex. Especially if you sub is moving. You have to re-figure AOB in a matter of seconds.

Default just to be clear

whenever I adjust any of the Attack Dials, I always send it to the by clicking the little pointer device. That was not the problem unfortunately. It is hard for me to believe the TDC was screwed up, but whatever happened, I had not seen it before.
