you should be able to make it back to australia on one-third speed from PI on 33% fuel.

Thanks gents for all that info..
>> you should be able to make it back to australia on one-third speed from PI on 33% fuel. << Actually, that's right...I ran out of fuel just about 50-60 nm out from Freemantle. However, on the return try to Australia, I submerged from a contact around Indonesia, and then started for port again...except I forgot to surface and ran for some distance at P depth..burning up unnecessary reserves. Had I not made that "bonehead" move, I would have made it back to port on the 33% remaining fuel. Love this sim btw..lots of depth to it..no pun intended. Royce |

It is not a game, it is a character builder.

I have been in your situation. What you need to do is run submerged until the batteries are 40-50% and then surface only long enough to recharge. You do that charge at 2/3 speed to conserve fuel.
It is slow, but all the while using batteries is extending your range. When you are free of likely enemy encounters, you can run the batteries down to 10-20% before refuelling. Also, slow speed underwater to extend battery life. It is slow but survival is the goal.

That might work in the sim but it aught not. The diesel engines is what charges the batteries. This should only use more fuel if anything. I don't know if SH4 simulates this properly though.

In real life i think they'd shut everything down and run on only one diesel, one screw and just chug home. Conserving everything they could but u cant do that in the sim i don't think. Would be neet if u could order something like that.

That was one thing I really liked about Destroyer Commander. Not so much for conserving fuel but for maneuvering. You could control each propeler separately in the engine room.

I thought that they had removed the "battery recharging from thin air" bug. On the other hand Ubisoft knows better. Fleet boats obviously had solar panels
