If you mean the one I linked to above, the instructions in the Readme that comes with it do seem to assume that you're already familiar with some previous version of the same files... anyway, here are the complete instructions:

1) Extract the contents of SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b to a location of your choice (but not your SH3 game folder!). The file you downloaded is a zipped (compressed) file so you have to extract its contents. Right-click on it and choose "Extract" or "Extract to" or whatever the Windows default command is. IIRC correctly Windows comes with a basic extraction app that should give you that option. Or if you have an app you've added ilike Winzip you can use that.

2) Copy & Paste the following files (from the ones you just extracted) to the main SH3 game folder, usually this is C:\Program Files\SilentHunterIII or C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII (or wherever you installed the game on your hard drive if you didn't choose the default location).

d3d9.cfg
d3d9.dll
SHIII.sdb
SP2 Rez fix uninstall.bat
SP2 Rez fix.bat

3) Once copied, run the SP2 Rez fix.bat file (the one now in your game folder). Just doubleclick it and it will open a DOS window for a fraction of a second. This "installs" the mod to your game.

4) Edit the d3d9.cfg file on the following lines to include your desired resolution:

resX=1280
resY=960

Open the file with Notepad, and on the lines noted above put in the figures for the resolution you want. SH3 runs with a native aspect ratio of 1024 by 768 or a 4:3 ratio. If you enter a widescreen ratio for a WS monitor, you may have problems with some graphics being stretched out. (There are some new WS options available in other threads of this forum.)

5) While you have the same file open, add your desired screenshot path to the line below (please note this mod disables the Ctrl + F11 function, you must use PrtScr):

screenshotPath=C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\SH3 Screens (for example).

This lets you "direct" the game to put any screenshots you take into a folder of your choice. Just add the path to the folder to the line noted above.

Hope that helps!

I'd like to add another piece of info here.
I am also using the fix and i've found that running the .bat file may not be necessary for making the fix work at least on my computer (laptop).
I had the fix disabled by running the ''uninstall .bat'' and deleted all the relevant files. Then, i re-copied the same files to my SH3 installation and by mistake i forgot to run the .bat file. I only entered the X & Y values. Shortly after i realized that the game was running with no issue even though i hadn't run the .bat file. I'm running Win7 if that makes a difference.

Also, taking screenshots by pressing prtsc doesn't work for me and others too. It results to CTD.

Ditto regarding the CTD here also. Does anyone know a fix for this?

Best regards.

I'm runing windows 7 nad have tried it both ways but couldn't get it to work right. I set up the files as per instructions and tried runing the game in normal mode, not windowed mode, and it crashes just like it always has. In windowed mode it displayes at 1024x768 like always. Runing the program in various compatability modes didn't help eather. It would be nice to play the game in a bigger window. Any thoughts?

I don't have a clue. As i said, i'm running win7 too but i don't know why you can't make it work.

Hmm... How about doing what i -mistakenly- did? Don't run the bat file and just enter the values for x and y.

With Windows7/Vista, don't put the SHIII.sdb file into the SH3 directory, this is a Microsoft Compatibility Database file which tells the OS to do a delayed loading of the d3d9.dll and is only need with WindowsXP until SP3.

So only put d3d9.cfg and d3d9.dll into the directory of SHIII where the Sh3.exe is located. Next open the d3d9.cfg with a texteditor like notepad and set your desired resolution, it must be a resolution supported by your graphic card.

Now it is important how the graphics card driver is configured. I can only say how to do this if you use a nVidia card, see here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...7&postcount=10

this is mainly for my new dll, but the version from Kegetys has the same problem. Without such settings, you get CTD or "Cannot initialize 3D Engine" with Win7/Vista

Much obliged. I will have another go at.

Hmm, seems it won't work for me if it is hooked up with an HDMI cable hu? I guess I will have to suffer with a windo until someone comes out with some thing that will work with one.

Followed Seeadler instructions, and it still crashes. It just changes resolution and then appears a windows message telling that the application crashed. It never leaves the desktop, it just changes resolution and crashes that's all...Running with windows 7 x64 and a Nvidia GTX285

I have to admit that some time ago I tested it with the sdb file, and it did not work, IIRC I launched the uninstall bat file, so I don't think it is a "remanent" of this test...
