I have CTDs happening too often (with or without mods enabled) during game sessions. When these events happen I cannot open the game from recently saved files. This results in having to open the game from an earlier save. This is without the latest patch being installed, because I want to see how stable the game was from other users experiences and how mods were being dealt with.
I don't recall seeing anything about the new patch fixing CTDs. These crashes occur when something in the game is being opened - a map or the crew management or hydrophone. It seems as if UBI do not have a proper testing strategy or don't apply what's been exposed from the earlier game releases. I'd go so far as to say it is the purchasers of the game who do the testing. Question : Are any other users experiencing similiar CTDs ? Are there known causes and fixes ? |

I've not had a single CTD.
There could be many reasons why you get CTD. what are your pc specs? Do you have any other programmes running while playing SH5? What settings are you using in the game? What graphic drivers do you have installed? Is your hardware overheating? My specs :- Athlon 3500+ (singlecore CPU) Radeon HD4870 (1gb gddr5) Display Driver 10.3 4gb RAM Windows XP pro. 32bit Programmes also running :- Only have antivirus programme and ATI CC running. All settings on max. except AA, which is on x2. Resolution 1280 x 1024 Hardware temps :- CPU 30.3 celcius GFX 40.6 celcius My graphics card got hot while playing some other games (over 80 celcuis) so i fitted a second fan sucking air in through the front of the case (blowing Air towards the GFX card), and it almost halfed the temp (This was long before i got SH5).

First thing to try is to remove all mods and patch your game to version 1.2 as this patch has many fixes for Nvidia cards.
If you still experiance problems then try updating your Graphics card driver http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us If you still have problems then reduce all settings to min and try again. finally if these do not solve your CTD, then contact ubi support http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/cgi-b...p_sid=Bpj4SQ_j Hope this helps.

Halface - are you using mods for the TDC ? If so check the thread from where the mod was sourced and see if there has been fixes applied for it.

Update.
Thought I'd try something before reviewing drivers and patching. I switched off remote game saving. There was one CTD which (I think this time) came about when a torpedo struck a VW destroyer that had collided with a Dido cruiser. The DD was stationery and did not seem to be recognised by the game software - it did not get picked up by the TDC and was not visible on the maps. But I was able to reload the game from the latest save file. I'm sure that the CTD corrupts the save by not allowing the save files to be closed properly and the game cannot be synchronised between me and the server, thus they fail to open, so I suggest saving locally. This may not necessarily stop CTDs but it will mean that you will more likely not lose data from these events. |

Possibly a corrupted register. If you have a register cleaner you might want to run a scan. Look for something listed that points to the DLL. Back up the register and run the clean. Be sure to back the register up first before cleaning. Then reload the game. If the load fails, try loading a historical mission to see if the problem is common to all loadings. If the historical mission loads successfully then it's related to your campaign saves. |

Driver 197.45
I don't think it's the driver though as this problem started getting frequent only recently. I found an old ATI tool in my device list and have now removed it. I'm going to try the game agoain soon and will reply in a while. |

I had two crashes but the game is stable enough to play especially with local saves. I'll update if I have anything further. I think about putting the new patch in over the next day or so.

Had an ATI card in there previously? Might wanna use something like Driversweeper to clean out the bits and pieces left behind by those drivers.

No, but I was using ATI tool to tune my old card - a GTS 8800. Thought I'd install it again after putting in Windows 7 but it is not compatible against the new OS / hardware. So I put in EVGA which works fine. The removal of ATITool can't have been clean, it's gone now. There are no old drivers on this bed, but I have Driversweeper in my old XP partition. I have stability enough with this game to continue, it seems that these crashes are related to the Mediterranean campaign - going by what other users are saying and their experience is the same as mine. |
